EVB3 is a Logic plugin that does Hammond B3 sounds - $199

EVD6 does the Hohner D6 Clavinet, also a Logic plugin - $179

Better sound. Actually way better (yes, that's also true for the organ). I allready had the pleasure of being able to listen to them.
To bad they seem to be Logic only again - even if I'm a die hard Logic user I think such plugins should be available as VSTis.

it's a brilliant way to entice people to switch over to logic

they're building an arsenal of Logic only instruments that attract people

but I have to agree with Sascha; they should be available as vstis too [Mad]

Why is Emagic on this retro binge?

They're really putting their image out there as tradionalists, which (to me, a diehard Logic user) is not their forte. Just look at EVP88.
ES1, ES2, and especially EXS24 are workhorse instruments with wide, wide boundaries. Why waste their time on instant-gratification nostalgia plugs when there are so many good plugs entrenched out there already, and EXS24 is just begging for an update?

Well I think E-Magic knows there's a market out there for these plugs. The B4 sold very well I'm sure, I don't doubt that Lounge Lizard is going to be another big seller, and widely used plug-in. So I think it makes sense for E-Magic to get into the market. Since I got Lounge Lizard I could now care less about E-Magic not releasing VST versions of their plugs as I can only see it hurting them not enticing people to switch over to Logic. Who's going to switch over to Logic because of it's exclusive instruments now, when they've already got the multi-platform B4, Lounge Lizard, and even Tricky Clav? And I'm sure we'll be seeing more similar plug-ins coming out soon from smaller developers. Why the retro thing? Cause people like this stuff, I know I do. I'd rather have a faithful recreation of a good, classic real world instrument, then some wacky new synth. But that's just me.

I agree. I would much rather play a good modeled Rhodes, B3 or clav than play a sample. I thought about picking up Logic so I could use the EVP88 but Lounge Lizzard has taken care of that. Also note how much better it sounds upon release than it did with the early MP3's that were mentioned here a month ago. So what if someone comes out with a plug that sounds better than B4. If it happens I am sure NI will start working on an improved version and take the position back. In fact, they are more likely to upgrade a product when they have a wide base of users. With my VSTi's and DXi's I can count of support 10 years from now. Even if major companies drop those formats you can bet someone here will keep us supplied with a host. I am not so sure that will happen with Logic only instruments.

I think this could be a very interesting discussion on the need for vintage and real instruments in the virtual environment compared to more wild synths

can someone please shed a little light on the issue of recreating vintage instruments for me:

Lounge Lizard is a form a Tassman, B4 is made out of Reaktor, etc

how do you make these types of vsti's? how do you recreate the pickup positions on the D6 clav or the drawbars on an organ?

hmm? Much Better than B4? Logic Only? again? Screw Emagic. NI B4 is my B3 and Lounge Lizard is about to become my EP. I really hate them for not giving me the EVP88 when I wanted it.

Let Emagic release their Logic-only plugs, so what? No one listening to a song is going to say: 'This tune is crap, it used the awful B4 instead of that Logic plug'.
I just think its going to be a big f*cking mistake for them to release cut-down VST versions of these plugs. In fact, I HOPE THEY DO, because no-one is going to buy them, thats what they deserve with this kind of attitude. When they brought out EVP88 and then gave us the EVP73, anyone who desperately wanted a Rhodes VSTi bought it. Now, who is going to buy a cut-down B3-model when there's daOrgan and B4 on the market? Or the Clav, when there's TickyClav, thats free and sounds great?

I think Emagic are truly digging their own vintage-instrument hole... [Mad]
