Nice one!
But.. quote:... a bit higher? On my Athlon 1gHz a 4 note voicing (yeah, I tweaked it to sound tonal) is using up 40%, if not more - ugh! So I can't even think about tweaking sounds in a mix anymore, would have to bounce instantly. But anyways, that SynthEdit principle is just incredible. Let's hope the engine could be optimized somehow. Cheers, Sascha

Cheers. I'll check it out when I'm home. Keep those VSTi's comin ![]()

It (synthedit vsti compiler) could be optimized a little more for cpu efficency, for example 808 drums uses a lot for what it is, way more than the same thing done in sync modular or something would i think, but then other more simple ensembles are really low on cpu.
It's not that bad considering the feature just came out, i bet it gets a lot better. One thing i find bothersome about synthedit in general is the unintuitive and sluggish response of the sliders and knobs.. not a big deal, shoot tis' free, but it would be nice to see the smoother gui operation we are used to in vsti's, imo that's far more worthy of people's attention than cosmetic "skins" ![]()

i'm going to duck out and get some stuff going. the lovely thing about this (and.. yeah.. i'd be doing SyncM.. but i'm on rice n' beans for a while.. SE might just do me anyway with another stick of ram..) is the concept of tailoring synths for your needs.. ie. the arch. of 'blaster' is setup for demoing SE and flexibility, but you could take half of it out and have a good engine for kicks that would ride lighter on the cpu.. (yes.. smaller modules do use less) another one for hats, et c.
question about SyncModular if anyone's up for it.. can you patch it (or i guess reaktor..) in the vsti environment?? i'm using an audiowerk and using anything but the native drivers is a drag.. i keep my daw 'logic only.'

Hey is Ben going to have to start listing all these new VSTis? Poor poor Ben if so.

quote:If you mean using SynC in Logic as a VSTi, then the answer is yes - but you have to load up the ensemble manually. Logic (4.x) doesn't save the SynC Modular settings with the song. This is fixed in Logic 5, apparently. No such trouble with Reaktor or Tassman, though. [ 03 June 2002, 21:25: Message edited by: Collusion ]

nah c i mean more can you create/edit the ensemble within the instance in logic? if i have to do it out of logic, i have to install other drivers with my soundcard, which is misery..

That's a big fat YES, Xoxos! ![]()

oooooohh oh now i'm going to have to wash myself off
thanks (tho if you're anything like me you prolly enjoyed saying that..)

Yeah, Xoxos, I did!
Just a quick point, if you ever get the chance, try out VAZ 2010. It can host VSTi's and works perfectly in Logic. Anytime I come across a plug that won't work directly with Logic, or gives me the "save with song" trouble mentioned above - I use VAZ to act as host. As odd as it may sound, VAZ 2010 VSTi is a VSTi host within a VSTi host.... ![]()

synthedit creation drumsynth w/ stuff i find handy, ie. 2 noise bands (one routes to osc pitch mod for dirt) and bucketloads of high pass filters all over the place.
imho cpu is a little higher than comparable 'direct' coded stuff, but hey.. tweak your soun ds in the mix, export 'em.. off to work. lipped my mind to put the se1 file up. stereo tho, for hosts that had trouble with that.. paradigm shift? yup. course, the real fun begins when we start custom skinning them.. no time today (but i did put the brooks/grey bg on it

I tried Blaster last night for while. Works good, but like someone else mentioned the buttons of synths made in Synthedit are not good. On mine I just used faders, cause they are a bit better to control. Controlling the buttons with the mouse is a pain.
But I got some reasonable sounds with Blaster. Maybe I'll enter the june competition with Synthedit synths only ![]() |
