I know we've all got synths up to our eyeballs (yawn, how droll), but if you like synths then Delta III is one to listen to.
Almost 500 presets are divided up into proper folders like string folder, flute folder, organ folder, ambient folder etc. Good start, eh. 500 sounds that are managed so you can use them. The sounds themselves are Delta sounds, not clones and the usual suspects. All the lfos and mod routings and fresh waveforms are what give Delta III its own sound. They all have a lot of movement inside them, which I like. Organic rather than robotic. Delta III is an expensive sounding subtractive synth, with considerable range. You could happily own Pentagon & Co and still want this one in your collection. I don't want to rant how this preset rocks or bursts dams or shatters wine glasses. It's better just to listen to it, have a play and decide for yourself how it fits into your combo. Comparisons with Delta II are difficult, except in its Linplug-style diversity and controllability. DIII is way beyond the DII. It's a Pentagon class synth, but different. If you like synths, and especially if you already have some good ones, then you owe it to yourself to listen to this. Have we any other Delta III fans here who want to stand up and be counted?

I haven't had much time to play with Delta III so far, but I bought it on the strength of the beta version which I must say sounded brilliant, and has a very gratifying interface in terms of wave shaping. Its a definite step up from the gakstoar delta II in sound quality and when I've had more time to play with it I'll post a review. It should garner more attention than its currently getting.

What quietly amazes me is how someone can think up the code for a synth of this quality.
I'm not knocking smaller synths, but writing something the size of DIII must be an incredible personal challenge. And all from one guy ![]()

I remember the first Delta when they made it freeware.
God I hated that synth. Didn't like Alpha much either. Good to see it's come on in leaps and bounds. I can't really be bothered trying it because of the synths I've already got, but this one definitely looks like a class act. Just imagine Pentagon I, Delta III, VAZ2010 mixed with a couple of "smaller" synths like Junglist, Tau Pro, FMHeaven and Angelina. Suddenly you've got nearly all the arsenal you'd ever need. God this music caper's pretty allright yeah! [ 10 June 2002, 16:57: Message edited by: Caleb Blake ]

Hear, hear!
I just got Delta III a week ago, and have hardly been able to shut it off yet! It's freaking beautiful. I'm the first person to shout "No more analogs!", but not in this case. Peter has created a beautiful synth here, and the "classic" filter module is a real treat. I keep comparing this to my Nord, and Delta III can actually compete! Not many VAs can. The deceptively simple front-panel (!) hides a beast that is most capable of creating modular style sounds. God, I love this thing. Good job, Peter, and hooray to Kevvv for bringing this up!

Absolutely agree. What's really great about the presets is that there are so many examples of the very diverse sounds that Delta is capable of. They make an excellent jumping off point for exploring this wonderful instrument. Everything from thumping basses, drums, strings, beautiful throbbing/pulsing/phasing pads to screaming leads and very playable poly's...piano or guitar like. Nice and clean, dirty when it needs to be but not muddy. Thick and lush.
As someone else posted earlier the user interface is deceptively simple looking as this instrument is extremely deep. In my review I drew references to Pentagon, but more because of the price point and similarity of features. But it is not a Pentagon clone and definitely has its own personality. (I own both the Delta III and Pentagon I). I agree with Kevvvvv that this synth definitely needs to get more attention. Wow! regards, Brando

After reading the thread I decided to give it a try. Just about jumped out of my seat the first time the "noise" of the demo version came through the headphones. Are there no preset in the demo? I could not find any.

quote:Thanks Kev, I'm glad you like it Well, its actually not from _one_ person, although I'm the only one programming here. I needed some help and I got it from the customers of Delta I and Delta II giving me a constructive feedback that couldn't be any better. Further help came from Steinberg, thats the VST developer kit and also personal help from various Stein's
Finally it was of huge importance to have Chris on my side to do a manual that really explains all aspects of the Delta III and having Junebug and Jordi to create most of the presets for the D III. So I don't feel it a one man show, its rather a team work that grew over years. I feel thats the right point to say THANKS
