- From the Panels menu choose VST Instruments. When the instrument rack opens, select an instrument to use.

- Choose a MIDI track and, in the Inspector (on the left of the Arrange window), select the Instrument you just chose as the Track output.

- Make sure you have a MIDI keyboard connected, and switched on. Play some notes.

- If that doesn't work, check that your soundcard's audio output is connected to your amp.

- Make sure the Instruments mixer channel isn't muted.

- Make sure your amp is switched on.

Er...I'm running out of suggestions here...

EDIT

If the instrument has a virtual keyboard, try clicking on the keys with your mouse.

Not the QWERTY keyboard, a MIDI keyboard - like on a synthesizer.

Attached to a MIDI interface, attached to your computer.

ok bub , maybe cubase is not a good starting point for you : you ever heard of fruity loops?
it s a "tracker"-like sequencer that supports vsti's!! a lot easier to figgure out than cubase!

If he is not using a Demo and doesn't have the Manual it must be cracked software.People who use cracks should not receive help in these forums.Of course I could be wrong about it being warez-I hope.

i think we should be a happy family and not assume bad things about people all the time (hi refx!). it s obvious this guy is just "checking it out" so crack or demo who cares... maybe he'll get hooked and become a constructive memember of this fine institution.

now let's hope the guy's not eating ramen noodles because he shelled out too much money for his sequencer...you'd hurt his feelings....

Well Cubase doesn't come with a printed manual does it? I always remember people complaining about that (Sonar has a nice one [Razz] ). Assuming he bought it (and that's a big assumption at this point) maybe he just didn't know that it's on a .pdf on his hardrive.

Funky,

The getting started manual is printed. The Details manual is PDF. So he should definitely have a printed manual with enough info to get started.

looks like bubbstah gave up

after all, it is very hard to place some dll files in a folder if you can`t even read a manual [Smile]

Wouldn't the cracked version come with the pdf manual anyway - and isn't there a help menu within Cubase which would probably handle things like directing midi notes to instruments?

This may be showing my ignorance of the workings of Cubase.

I must admit though, I got a version of Logic with a soundcard and even reading through the supplied documentation I couldn't actually work out how to do anything constructive with that program. I decided then and there that it wasn't the application for me. [Big Grin]
