Could you give an example from a song?
Back in the mid 70's we had Clav, electric piano, (mostly mono) synths like the minimoog and arp, string machines (arp etc.) organ and mellotron. Poly synths didn't come into their own until the late 70's. The Prophet 5 went for about $5000 when they first came out.

Disco Stabs are normally made up of either Brass or String instruments I do believe.

Hi
Here´s what I do to get a cool stab/hit.
I load up a couple of synths/sounds together and let them play one chord. To this I apply effects, eqs, whatever.
Mostly I just play around. Then I sample the whole bunch, reload the sample and give it as much attack and as little release that seems fit.
Hey presto...
I got some very good results by this

Hey topaz cant download mp3, can only find winamp files.

Yeah string hits how do you make those?

The stab sound ive got sounds very digital i cant post it cuz ive got no web space.

Thinking about it - it sounds like a brass hit, and drum kick through a phaser.

My minds gone blank to a good disco example, I just assumed a synth did these hits.

Disco Stabs?!?!?!

Try playing a one finger melody/stab pattern and using a sharp string/brass sound.

Also double whatever you play by adding the same notes an octave higher.

If u want the cheesy Stock/Aitken/Waterman effect, play block triads using a synth brass patch over a bassline, with plenty of movement.

I could write an article on this, lol...

Most of the stabs were horns (trumpet, trombone, ect) A few of them together. It is quite a powerful effect. PWIT!

Tryu sampling them.

Check out Earth, wind and fire or something like tower of power.

'Most contemporary music will have a brass section consisting of trumpet, trombone, two tenor saxes and one baritone sax...such are the variations in sound quality between each synth or module when it comes to brass parts that sometimes it can make more sense to use a trumpet sound in the lower octaves to realise a decent trombone sound.' - CM Magazine

three words

Earth Wind & Fire

There are some sound fonts from the sound site

Hits 1 - 4

These are a good place to start. Go to the sounds
online. They have a nice selection of stabs.

You can also pick up some 70's disco albums and
try to isolate the sammples.

OK dont laugh... [Embarrassed]
The stabs im after sound very digital. If you need an example -Cameo - just be yourself ,the stabs at the very begining. OK not early 70s but what synths does Cameo use especially the leads and keys? I can hear a DX7 in there.

Maybe I should post this question as another thread but what the hell makes that high pitch 'bwoiing' noise. Its kinda like a cymbol thats hit and then goes up in pitch. Feel free to laugh at my discription [Embarrassed] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]
