My cubase is killing me. I can't playback for more than about 4 measures before all the sound distorts and clips out and then, no sound at all. I'm only running 1 Pro52 track and 1 Battery track. Help me. It wasn't always like this.
PentiumIII 1.0 Ghz, 256MB, WinXP.

Increase your buffer size in the ASIO setup, or choose another ASIO driver, if available for your card.

At least on my system with a lousy SBLive, I have to decrease ASIO buffer size on DirectX ASIO driver to get low latency (eg to play VSTi live), and have to increase buffer size on MME ASIO driver to get stable playback without drops and stuttering (but high latency when playing live). MME with high buffer size plays fine but has 750ms latency.

If this doesn't help, since you're on XP, check also http://service.steinberg.net/knowledge.nsf/show/optimize_processor_sch eduling_win2k_xp and http://service.steinberg.net/knowledge.nsf/show/acpi_kills_audio_perfo rmance
But take care when disabling ACPI, since for enabling ACPI you have to reinstall XP. I tried to remoce ACPI on my system but didn't get any better performance, so this might also be not usefull for you.
