Is there any of you that know if there is a vst synth that is great for atmspheric pad sounds?
I think that the vst-sounds sounds a bit synthetic, and do not have the fullness in them.

I like Delta III, I like Electron, I like Galactix. I like soooo much of VSTi's ...... get some demos.

Absynth Absynth Absynth in that order

Depends on what you're actually looking for: "synthetic" and "fullness" often varies wildly based on individual tastes.
Perhaps try GalactIX (freeware): http://www.smartelectronix.com/~alex/ Also, Crystal is great for sound-scaping, if that's also what you're after (also freeware): http://www.greenoak.com/crystal/ And like afx23 said: Absynth.

My favorite pads are made from Delta III, CronoX, Crystal 1.?, and of course, the PPG 2.V. But probably as much as any of them, SynC Modular with DASH Synthesis' "Pad Station" ensemble.

Depends on the kind of pads you want although Absynth can probably do any kind of pad you'd want. It's also about $240.
Analog - Pentagon 1 Hybrid - CronoX, Delta III Digital - PPG 2.v, Crystal, incredible and free FM - FM7 ($230), Rainbow II Free - GalactIX (digital meets analog sound) You can't go wrong downloading Crystal or GalactIX although I'm not sure GalactIX is available for Mac if you're on that platform.

quote:Whatta shameless plug - especially assuming it's not even out yet. I don't think FrodeFrisk's question was about waiting for some more months. Anyways, I would go for some sampler patch, if you have one. At www.saschafranck.de/exs you'll find some for Emagic's EXS, if you have it. Apart from that, FM7 indeed is great for pads too. Absynth might even be the killer, but I don't know it too well yet. Some soundfonts available at the *usual* places offer great pads too. Regards, Sascha

as sound designer I would like to know what most people mean with Atmospheric pad (?)
by me, every pad with some reverb is atmospheric <grin> or do you mean fat, noisy, dark, bright, massive modulated, what else? thanks

Short answer: any decent synth if you know how to program it.
Long: I use Pentagon ($99) and Crystal (FREE) and Cronox ($45). Also, sometimes Wavedream, but it's part of Orion, so you'd have to buy the whole host ($100). Pentagon has a rich, deep ambiance that's nearly impossible to reproduce. Crystal is a bit thinner, but it's easier to layer (in fact, it behaves like 3 expensive synths in one), and MUCH easier to get creative with due to the graphical envelopes. Cronox is somewhere between the two: its filters are more digital, and the mod. matrix opens up creativity like magic, so in these respects it's closer to Crystal; but it also has sample loading capability, which can help you steer it toward Pentagon-like sounds. Wavedream is a marvel, but personally I find it hard to program. On the other hand, you can do amazing pads with *any* synth in Orion, just use automation and f/x profusely... ![]()

Don't forget Cheese Machine and Crazy Diamonds both freeware and made specifically for pads. They layer with one another quite nicely. ![]()

Angelina should be very good at producing pad sounds and also a VSTi called Astrobelt or something.
I can't find that one in the Instruments drop-down list. I don't know why.

just cheked out Natives fm7 and i have to say that it sounds very promising. Great stuff. Crystal was also great exept that it eats my cpu like crazy.
