HI Guy's,

Has anyone else tried 'Plugsound 5' yet?
I think it's a great little VI, I know it's no Absynth but none the less it's got some wicked sounds on it that are really useable!!!
It use's the same UVI engine as Stylus so it's rock solid too.
Great sounding filters and over 500 preset soundz [Eek!]
Pound for Pound i think it's worth every penny, Top 'Bread and butter' synth module... I'd be really interested in anyone else's opinion...
I might knock up a little toon and post it latter if anyone's interested [Crazy] ?

Never heard of it. Post that tune and maybe you'll get others interested. Unless I'm the only one not using it. Heh.

Are you talking about the stuff at www.plugsound.com? Sounds interesting, depends on the price.

I am so not down with prices of what essentially is a "sample disk". This applies to Spectrasonics Stylus, Sonic Synth, Sampletank and now Plugsound.

For someone who makes music their occupation - those prices are probably appropriate.

However i cannot justify such expenditure on stuff i do for my own pleasure. So i guess i'll stick to free soundfonts and samples i can find all over the net.

But out of curiousity - i want to ask the makers of Sonic Synth and Stylus: Is it really better to sell a few units at full price rather than sell more at 35$ a piece for non-pro use? Or does it simply come down to the fact that people effectively steal - buy non-pro and use it professionally?

Feveria,

Good sample disks cost about as much as Stylus and SonicSynth do, both of which have oodles of high quality content. And remember these are playable right out of the box. Buying SonicSynth was a reach for me financially, but I have not regretted it one second, and I am no pro. Saved me the cost of buying a new synth. I had a ton of soundfonts and free samples, but just hearing the Piano on SonicSynth was inspiring. Quality does inspire you and the cost and effort that goes into making SonicSynth and Stylus is completely justified. Note I don't use Stylus, but I doubt anything from Spectrasonics is likely to be substandard in terms of sound quality.

I don't drive a BMW because it's not affordable for me. Same reason i can't buy Sonic Synth. While i can't deny quality of both - i will simply have to do without them.

However if i could buy each of those products for 35$ - 50$ - i would probably slowly buy all of them.

If this never happens - i will continue buying 20$ a piece cheap Acid and E-Jay refills and huniting down treasure sites like E-Lab and Hammersound.

Can't argue with you there. I would love a Kurzweil PC2x as a master controller, but no way in hell am I ever going to be able to afford that [Smile] . My argument still stands in that the price is justified.

Yeah, i agree that price is justified.

I was just wondering - if selling great number of units cheap will still be feasible. In case of BMW it's not - cars sell barely above their manufacturing cost. But sample disks - are a different story.

But the market for the BMW car is far larger and will recoup it's R & D costs - the same cannot be said of the sample cd's made for Akai samplers and the like. Even bunging them out cheap wouldn't guarantee more sales - they are only being offered up to a small niche market.

Where do you get acid samples for $20? Where is the best (cheapest) place to buy samples for acid, sampletank, and others?

Rock

Even at $35 dollars, someone will steal it. Muon did an experiment a few months ago which proved it.

It's amusing but people will steal free-ware too ... get this ... someone told me to take a look on one of those peer-to-peer networks (never used one before) & put in "vst". Well, the funniest thing I noticed was that there was a queue of 34 people waiting to download Galactix.

34 people queuing to download Galactix - what a joke [Big Grin] [Big Grin] . But then, it probably helped them in their thrill of getting something for nothing!!

I then got rid of it - I'm not interested in that crap.
