AuthorTopic: Absynth - a few questions

Hello there,

I'm just very curious with the wave import facilities in Absynth, are there any restrictions to this part of the synth (I know it's mono only).

Only with the scenario of only having a single pitched sample of something is it possible to recreate a decent sounding multisample set (say 1-2 octaves), only with the pitch differences being synthesised and not time-stretched, you wouldn't presumably get the artifacts involved in typical timestretching.

Also, as I am increasingly becoming involved in sound-design, I would love it if I could take samples and just be able to manipulate them to my hearts content without any degredation - are there any side effects to extensive manipulations - by that I mean aliasing and artefacts.

I'm defintely downloading the demo tommorow in work, but until then I'm really interested in others peeps views of it. I've already signed onto the yahoo group, which is filled with lots of presets - NI seemed to do a pretty good job already with the amount of presets they had.lol.

It's kind of funny, as I went in there with the sole purpose of getting BT's Twisted Textures, on the basis that nothing could touch it sonically, my constant nagging doubt with it, was the lack of any multisamples and the uncontrollable evolution of many of the sounds.

When I played around with Absynth, I realised I could pretty much BT toe-for-toe on many issues. Though I'd still kill for some of his kyma patches.lol

"Extract from WAV: This feature (in the waveform window) allows you to use the first 1024 samples of a mono or stereo (in which case only the left side is used) wave file as single cycle waveform in Absynth."

i don't know how long exactly is 1024 samples but it is very short.
anyone here knows how many milliseconds that is??

depends on sample-rate, fanks for info.

Yes but most of them will only work on the Mac
version of Absynth 1.2.3 @ the moment untill the
Mac version is 1.3.2 the same as PC version.

Then kind Mac users can load patches then export
them so they can be read by the Pc version.

AFAIK this just functions as an extra custom
oscillator , like a wave table .

At a sample rate of 44.1khz, 1024 samples works out to about 43 hz. Any waveform you import, will cycle at least 43 times per second, which works out to a really low F.
Any component of any sample will be cycling at least 43 per sec, and higher frequencies at multiples of that rate.

Anyway, the upshot is that Absynth can't be used as a multi-sampler.

Basically, importing those 1024 samples is the equivalent of using different waveforms in a synth. It gives you different timbres for the pitches.

But Absynth makes some amazing noises, chek the demo.

so it's effectively a sampling wavetable bit of the synth. Cool. Has anyone posted any PPG stuff.

are there any web sources for sampled waveforms - PPG, JD-800 etc. It would be great if one did exist. Even diagrams of the waveforms, schematics or something.

There is a bunch of Waveterm samples @ the bottom
