AuthorTopic: Best Synths Available
Ben Sensational

In your opinion what are the hottest(best) mono & poly synths available?
I say the Triangle II and the Pentagon I.The Beast and Delta III is a very very close second.

Pentagon and Triangle 1 are just about the only ones I need.

Hmmmmm. Hard to say, honestly, because there are so many good ones. Lately I've been using Mostly Tau Pro as my main monosynth. For polysynths, it's been VirSyn Tera and Tassman in the over $100 range, while Delta III and Synthetic Pro II are representing the under $100 range. Next week, I might answer differently. Also, the PPG 2.V is a pretty constant presence. Oh, hell, I can't decide! I also use Electron daily. Screw it, there is no best! Confused But for HARDWARE: it's a Yamaha CS60 for analog poly, Wavestation for digital, and my Theremin for monosnth. Wink

How many of these are there gonna be? To be truthful you would have to say something like VirSyn TERA or Absynth but the fact is that I really don't feel that I need anything like that because with the few synths I do have I can do pretty much anything I can think of and they are each worth more than all my VSTi put together.

At the moment I find myself using WaspXT in everything I am working on because it has such a great filter. JX Synth is still my enduring favourite because it has such huge oscillators with JUNGLIST and JunoX2 coming in for honourable mentions. UltranWMS is also a kick-arse machine with a virtually unlimited range of possibilities.

ENOUGH OF THIS ALREADY!!!! How about you read 6 hour old posts and see what people say in those. It seems like a quarter of the posts in the instrument section is what's your favorite synth??? which one should i get?? Give me the money and i'll make the frickn decision if you aren't going to try it out yourself. If you read this board for two minutes you of the now dead skratchcon board, where every question in the equipment section was what's the best turntable, what's the best scratch needle. If the people would just read the other stuff they would see that the 1200's are/were the best tables and that the m44-7 or m44-g are the best scratch needles.

Look at the frickn reviews or the old posts and you'll see what the top synths are. buy what you like. you don't need the approval by the "soft synth" communitty in order for you to get a synth. people's insecurity is running rampant...

I really hope I don't come off sounding harsh here, and please forgive me if I do Smile :

I can certainly understand the desire to find out such information (especially if you're fairly new to the forum), but...I keep wondering how many permutations of these same "best..." thread-topics are we going to keep seeing in these forums over time:

* "What's the best [SYNTH/EFFECT/HOST/O-S]...?"

* "Who's the best: [SYNTH1/EFFECT1/HOST1/O-S1] or [SYNTH2/EFFECT2/HOST2/O-S2]...?"

* "[SYNTH1/EFFECT1/HOST1/O-S1] vs. [SYNTH2/EFFECT2/HOST2/O-S2]...which is best?"

* "My [SYNTH1/EFFECT1/HOST1/O-S1] kicks your [SYNTH2/EFFECT2/HOST2/O-S2]'s ass...!!"

* "Doesn't [SYNTH/EFFECT/HOST/O-S] just totally RULE? Hooray for us!"

...and the dreaded, inevitable:

* "How do U make PHAT bass soundz with [SYNTH/EFFECT/HOST]...?" Rolling Eyes

These same questions have been asked here so many times repeatedly, sometimes in the course of a few days or even hours...that it's already almost to the point where you can predict who's going to vote for what anymore...the same folks always fall into the RGC camp, or the Synapse camp, or the Orion camp, or the Fruity camp, or the Absynth camp......

If you're honestly interested in such information (and not just trying to do more of the same old "hooray for my favorite! Who's with me?" rabble-rousing), I think by now you could just probably run a search within the various forums here on the words "best", "hottest", "vs.", "phattest"....and find pretty much the same results consistantly. Wink

Sorry about this little rant....I truly hope I haven't offended anyone with it, and if I did, my sincerest apologizes. It's just something I've been wondering for some time.... Smile

cool it, mates Smile
As much as those recurring topics piss me off too, i notice that a great many of the best/hottest/phattest stuff- topics is being started by newbies.

excerpt from Marco' s experience dictionary:

NEWBIE----(noun) Person that is new to KvR, possibly new to computer music altogether. N(s) are generally recognizable by low post count.

I reckon most of the "who is the best" topics come from genuine, if a little naive, need to know what the majourity thinks is the best. It's natural and very helpful too!

It's usually only some replies later that the thread becomes a flame, or a orchid contest farce for that matter. Replies by long time members, i should add. Rolling Eyes Wink Very Happy

Cheerio,

Too right! Give Ben Sensationalist a break. He only asked a question. Doesn't need to get grief over it. Start a 'Why don't people read past posts?' thread if it gets to you that much.

However, if I see another 'What do we eat/drink/masturbate over?' thread I might scream. Although I'll reply. Especially if it's the last one. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy (mmm, Kylie...)
