AuthorTopic: A simple VSTi I'd really like . . .

What I'd really like is a VSTi of a noise+snare combination. That's it. It wouldn't do anything else. No effects, no polyphony, no extras, just a very high quality snare+noise device from tinny 606 style to rich long decay white noise whooshes.

All the drum VSTi at the moment seem to want to be an entire kit or are slimline with a few voices, doing none of them very well. In Fruity 3.5 they have the Kick - just a bass drum synth and nothing more. It's a bit simple, but does most of the work OK. I bought DrumSynth Live for Fruity but am disappointed with it - it's trying too hard and just can't cut it for quality.

But I think some specialised single device VSTi like this could do well: start with the noise device, then do a kick, tom, metal+hats etc. It could become a fantastic customised range. After a while you could get into world percussion and bizarre stuff.

Tried all of those (except Drumatic), but the sound quality isn't really there. At the moment I'm using the Pro-52 as a noise source which is a bit expensive in CPU terms, but certainly gets the richness I want.

I also like the Tomcat in Orion. A "Super-Tomcat" VSTi would be ideal.
