AuthorTopic: I'm trying to get a spacy sound

Hi guys. I'm trying to get a distinct sound that is used in spacy songs a lot. It's like a ringing, short sound, almost like a vibraphone except more spacy. I think it is digital. Can someone help me out please? I can't think of any song that uses it right now, except the colorbox song, which is also the worldcup theme. And hmm.. the puzzle song on MDK 2 with Max. Pleaes tell me how I could get that sound.

Please help! THanks a lot in advance.

My best guess - FM synthesis. FM has that distinc "purity" that you can hear.

ooh vibraphone.. great sounds

hmmm.. i dont remember the song.. so this is gonna be another crap reply.. Sad

however for most spacey stuff.. a bit of phaser works well... reverb is a good thing too

as far as a spacey vibraphone sound... mmm try this..

phaser set to full res and 80% speed.. half saturation of reverb with a large room size and a short predelay.. hmm and an LFO playing with the pitch.. if you are using vibraphone samples this will be a lot easier..

depending on how many lfos you have.. set one to fairly slow with a low amt.. if you have two set another to as fast as possible and half the amt of the first lfo..

it *SHOULD* sound a bit spacey without getting too out of pitch and becoming horribly eerie (or just plain bad sounding).. well at least to my ears..

for all i know this could be completely different from what you wanted.. but i like this sound anyways lol..

Or try a Rhodes sound with some phasing, delay, maybe some treb, and verb, once you get around C4 it should provide you with a spacy "almost vibraphone-ish" sound, but a bit mellower. If you have Lounge Lizard I could e-mail you a patch I did that fits this description. I don't know the song you're talking about but from your description this might get ya close.
