AuthorTopic: Battery & Rm1X???

Hi there,

I want more interaction in Battery... I can pick up an rm1x for few euro's...

soo, is it possible that I can trigger my Battery samples from the RM1X stepsequencer through my midiman midi interface? That would be awesome...

Thanx!

This should be possible. But why do you want to do that ? Isn't this much simpler from your Host software. And if not, I think using Fruity as the step-sequencer inside your host and Battery inside Fruity should do the trick nicely (and much more integrated).

you're right... but if I can use the rm1x I have "hands-on" control...

Isn't the RM1x a drum-machine ? I don't see how it would give you more "hands-on" control then the step-edit buttons in Fruity. Or if you wan't to play the sounds, any cheap MIDI-keyboard with velocity will give you much more control.

Or maybe I completely overlook what you are getting at Wink

I don't think Fruity is hands-on as in "hands-on". I don't want to play them, I want to sequence the samples using the rm1x, then sequence the rm1x patterns using Cubase... kinda complicated, but I think it's intuitive...

Well, I don't think you can "sequence" the Rm1x patterns from Cubase. You can sequence the Rm1x SOUNDS from Cubase, or sequence Battery from the Rm1x patterns (the Rm1x is in fact a step-pattern sequencer like all drum-computers are).

But still, it seems from your posts here that you want better step-pattern functionality that you miss in Cubase. The answer to that is still Fruityloops as it is the most comprehensive ste-pattern sequencer you can currently get to plug into another host.

Besides this you might take a look at Ruction, although it won't let you trigger Battery but it is a step-sequencer VSTi that can load it's own sounds.

You're kinda right, I am missing stepsequencing in Cubase... How much is fruity gonna cost me and is it worth the purchase?

As an owner of Battery, FrutyLoops and the Yamaha RM1x I suttest Fruty as a source of step sequencing. If you can pull it together an E-Mu XL7 is even better. Much better. You can do step sequencing or use the velocity sensative pads to program the parts.

I'm really quite amazed that someone would call the almighty Yamaha RM1x a drum computer. Pfffft!

OK, I took a quick peek at it and you are right, it's not a drum computer..................... it's a beat-machine Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

(did I mention I really don't like this kind of machines)...

Well I'd probably call it what it is...a fully featured hardware sequencer focused on dance music. Pattern and Linear methods are available.

It's got over 600 sounds mainly focusing on synths but also has some "real" instruments and many drumkits. Also has a comprehensive effects section, advanced editing and a hands on control surface for the live performer.

God the thing is just SO much more than a drum computer. A bit like saying FruityLoops is just a soft drum machine.

But, I think FruityLoops with battery and a hardware control surface might end up being a better bet in the long run.

That was my point too, remember Wink
