if you want them, go to my site and download them http://www.fitchsounds.com you'll find them on the "samples and patches" page they're in mono.. so not the best. I'll have to work on getting a stereo set done and the samples file is quiet big...because there's a lot of samples 1 for every note i haven't looped them..it's up to you whether or not you decide to and as it says in the title..they're for EXS24 or EXSP24, so make sure you download the .exs file too sorry squids...but i reckon "yours" will come out a lot nicer..because this is my first attempt at putting together a "proper" sample set.. and you do it all the time.. so i'm not really stealing your thunder enjoy.. let me know how you get on.. 1 thing.. my server isn't that great..so keep your fingers crossed i promise they're there though..they took me ages to upload

No problem. Are these the same raw samples we have? (Fitch and I did a secret sample session... no longer secret! We were going to make a free downloadable Fitchello for the ST users... we still will but it will be looped.
| fitch | Posted: 21st October 2002 15:38 | |||
they are only 1/2 of what you have, young sir
| Squids | Posted: 21st October 2002 15:56 | |||
Aha.... so we'll leave them in suspense then? I'll go check out what you've got. We haven't gotten the chance yet to loop the Fitchello and it's too big to post as it is but... we will and it will be fun! In the meantime... Go feast on Fitch's EXS cello! Thanks Fitch ...Modem is Smoking.
I don't have EXS but i will make a Bank in VSampler with the Samples. Let ya Know how it goes. Looking forward to these ...Me Luvre Cello Paul

but, darn it! and, of course, a big thanks to Moritz and Symbiant for pointing me in the right direction i'm going to have to make purchase soon...the demo probably only lasts a few more days!
| fitch | Posted: 21st October 2002 16:18 | |||
exactly... i'm sure you don't need EXS to use them..
| x_bruce | Posted: 21st October 2002 16:18 | |||
Thanks Fitch,
I noticed the Absynth bank and Reaktor ensembles. Quite a catch! Bruce

For those who don't have time to check out the samples. or just because I am a freak and tried out the EXS patch with a little melody I've been working on - here is a quick minute and a half demo of Fitch's beautiful work, with only a Logic silververb and a wee bit of eq'ing -
http://www.endmusik.com/Audio/endmusik_Fitch_demo.mp3 enjoy! Fitch, these are truly great samples, and I anticipate using them quite often! It's much nicer to use these than the ones thrown into the EXSp folder! thank you so much! Michael
| Kajiki | Posted: 21st October 2002 18:28 | |||
I couldn't read the patch with Kontakt because the samples are not named *.wav... I don't have EXS24 so I can't just change the file names to *.wav and change the .exs file accordingly... So I only have each sample files but I don't know how they are mapped (or zoned) or how they are looped...
| donkey tugger | Posted: 21st October 2002 19:02 | |||
Tada, Donkey to the rescue, just made a soundfont of em, I can upload it if you want.
| endmusik | Posted: 21st October 2002 19:08 | |||
In a day, I should be able to make a Kontakt patch of them as well (UPS says will be delivered wednesday!)
woo hoo! michael | ||||
| Sascha Franck | Posted: 21st October 2002 19:14 | |||
Many thanks, Mrs. Fitch!
Seems to sound great! Two gripes though: - On PC the files have no file extension (I assume they're AIF, no?). I know I can just rename them, but then the EXS won't find them (it finds the one without extension just fine). So, in order to use both your patch and the samples in other programs, I'll have to double them. I don't know what you'd have to do on your Mac to make the files show up with extensions on PCs (maybe some things in File Buddy?!?), but I allready downloaded EXS/Mac patches with the filenames just showing up fine. - An EXS tip: If you name the notenumbers differently (without "-"s and with #'s (b's won't work properly), you could use the EXS's automapping feature (you can find the properties for that in the EXS editor > Edit > Preferences > read root note from <XYZ>). That way you just load all of your samples at once and the EXS will setup all the zones automatically (actually a great feature no other VSTi sampler offers yet). But anyways, thanks a lot again! Cheers, Sascha
| Kajiki | Posted: 21st October 2002 19:15 | |||
Thanks endmusik, but if you own EXS24, you can do it in a minute. The problem is, I don't know any info about how the samples are mapped or looped because Kontakt refuses to read the unspecified-type sample files...
If someone could just change the file names of the samples to *.wav in EXS24, that will fix the problem...
| Kajiki | Posted: 21st October 2002 19:16 | |||
Opps, I didn't read the previous page...
Help me Obi-Wan Donkey, you're my only hope...
| Resonance | Posted: 21st October 2002 19:24 | |||
Sascha, I used Sound Forge to open all the files as raw data and then saved them all as mono .WAVs - you can do it with Wavelab 4 too... simply renaming didn't cut it over here... I can post a zip for PC people if they want the samples as .WAVs if fitch is cool with that...
| donkey tugger | Posted: 21st October 2002 19:28 | |||
Hehe, snap Reso boy! Thats what I did too. Anyway I'll upload t'soundfont now.
| Resonance | Posted: 21st October 2002 19:29 | |||
Great minds Donk.... Good idea with the font - I was just gonna stick with the EXS file but I'll try the font too! Donk did you do any looping? I'm a little too lazy for that kind of effort...

Thanks Fitch, nice work!

| Sascha Franck | Posted: 21st October 2002 19:34 | |||
Just rename them to .aif (I use powerrename to do that for a whole lot of files).
Thing is, one would have to redo the complete set. Not a big problem though, I may do that tomorrow morning. Err well, actually it just IS tomorrow morning (4:20AM), so here: http://www.saschafranck.de/exs/Fitch_Cello_mod.zip Just remember to rename all samples to .aif first. The patch itself then will be 100% identical to what Fitch posted. Cheers + good nite, Sascha
| Sascha Franck | Posted: 21st October 2002 19:38 | |||
Res, as said in my previous post, renaming just worked fine for me. Usually you only have to do the "raw" deal if it's .SD2 files (cuz you actually need to convert them), in the case of missing file extensions you can simply add them. Don't know why it didn't work for you though (as said, those are .aif, not .wav). Cheers, Sascha
| Resonance | Posted: 21st October 2002 19:39 | |||
Yeah, I'm a little confused about that too... Thanks for the mod though...
| Sascha Franck | Posted: 21st October 2002 19:50 | |||
Last post for today: Maybe that was a bit unclear, here's an example of which filenames would work properly: C0, C#0, F#0, A#2 etc. Apart from that, if you deal with MAC/PC and PC/MAC conversions a bit more often (which happens to me sometimes), don't use any esoteric letters. No ?s and stuff like that. If you keep it with letters, numbers, "-"s and "_"'s you'll never run into problems. I am only mentioning this because I had massive problems opening Mac originated audiofiles called something like "git-01?.wav" - "?" simply isn't allowed under Windows, but Logic (or any other sequencer for that matter) is referring to it anyways, so in the end it won't find the file. Time to see if my bed is even existing any longer (believe me, didn't see it too often during the last weeks), Sascha
| donkey tugger | Posted: 21st October 2002 19:58 | |||
Bed?? No wonder you lost the war SF! Anyway, for thems that wants it here is the soundfont of these ere cello fitch samples. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bennyleeds7/fitchy1.sf2 I'll leave it up for a few days.
| Kajiki | Posted: 21st October 2002 20:05 | |||
That worked Sascha! Thank you and you may sleep until 7:30am. But because *.exs files contain local directory information, I needed to specify the directory that contains samples. Probably other people could use soundfont files > Donkey.
Nice job, fitch! Probably this patch could use some fine-turnings in order to use with other samples...EXS24 can fine-tune individual samples, right? Maybe someone with EXS would like to take up that job? Resonance?
| Moritz Morpheus MkIII | Posted: 21st October 2002 20:05 | |||
ey fitch..with all those goodies to your patch..we would need a delay-lama-like GUI with you playing the cello!
| Resonance | Posted: 21st October 2002 20:09 | |||
I'm a little too lazy for an undertaking of that size!!!
| realmarco | Posted: 21st October 2002 20:39 | |||
Thank you very much Fitch
...weird i seem to Download alot of Exs samples files but i don't have the sampler...until some money appears i'm stuck to use them inbattery thanks Sascah I d/l all yours too Mann if i wasn't taken i'd be in love with Fitch, not only did she put some samples for samplers, but she use Reaktor, She uses Absynth , she plays the Cello, she plays the guitar she knows how to use a mixer ...an above all else she's a mac head
| fitch | Posted: 22nd October 2002 01:54 | |||
sorry if the files extensions aren't what you need..and thelooping isn't there.. this was just a learning session for me, so i'll know better next time If you want loops..maybe if you wait till squids puts his looped set online, his will be much better..and there will be sounds from 2 sets ...so it will be much better for the file extensions..I kinda figured you'd all have conversion tools..i have to do that sort of thing on my mac all the time. So i just went with what i'm working with all the time.. lovely demo, endmusik..quite haunting to hear hope you all enjoy using them..but don't forget...i still love doing collabs

thanks.. and big up to Maestro Donkey for putting them into SF

Thanks Fitch - these should be fun.
I'll make up a Battery "kit" when I have a moment. Maybe a VSamp patch too.
| Sascha Franck | Posted: 22nd October 2002 04:57 | |||
Allright, here's an improved EXS patch. It's looped and finetuned (by ear, playing along with some sequences).
If I had the time I'd even upload a patch with destructively edited samples (some looppoints would work better with destructive crossfades, I only used the EXS's non-destructive function for x-fading now). The looppoints vary in their quality - just as the tremolo is varying in the source files (don't get me wrong, fitch, I like that tremolo, just makes it harder to loop without destructive editing). http://www.saschafranck.de/exs/Fitch_Cello_looped.zip In order to use this patch with the EXS or convert it to any other sampler format (using CDXtract or onboard conversion functionalities) you will need the files with .aif fileending as the EXS patch refers to them (I had to rename them in order to edit them in WaveLab). As said before, over here simply renaming them worked on PC. Might not even be required on Macs. Just for the record, Fitch, I noticed some spikes in some samples (especially noticeable in D#2). Anyways, thanks again, cheers, Sascha
| fitch | Posted: 22nd October 2002 05:44 | |||
thanks sascha...
i know all the bad points...it didn't set out as a master piece but next time i'll do it better . The orignal recordings were doone when i was still using cubase, and i'm not even sure whether i was using my external pre amp.. so they weren't the best. I normalized them in logic, because the levels weren't great...but maybe it was too much on some of them.. now when i record cello i never normalise anything because i can get a much clearer signal with my dbx mini pre and logic and the vibrato...wewll that has to come with a string instrument, it's part of the package thanks for looping them anyway..you've put in a lot of work BTW sascha...one of the reasons i decided to put these samples up, on the web, was because you pointed me towards such a wealth of other free EXS samples...it's nice to give something back after having downloaded so much free stuff
| endmusik | Posted: 22nd October 2002 08:00 | |||
Fitch - feel like doing a collaboration? I have something I would love to see if you could add a solo to - or see what you can come up with -
http://www.endmusik.com/Audio/Theme1.mp3 Let me know! Glad you liked the demo - I might work that into the piece today, I'll be sure to post this weeks results at some point (I took the week off from work to work on some songs) Michael

Thank you fitch. | ||||

Yep, I noticed the clickys and in my soundfont I mapped left out the worst offending samples and remapped those notes to the next sample.
| Funkybot | Posted: 22nd October 2002 15:38 | |||
Hey Dave from Muon I'd love a DS404 patch of these. I don't think I know enough about looping to be able to do it on my own. |
