at least they claim so on their site.
Anybody know if it's as good as gigastudio or the like?

Yes, EXS does streaming. And it does convert .gig files. I've had success converting Garritan Orchestral Strings, SAM Horns, Post Accordion and Dan Dean Clarinet. I can't compare to Gigastudio, 'cause I'm a Mac head. I figure it is not as good for polyphony as a dedicated fast P4, and it certainly is not as accurate at reproducing all of the Giga programming (Warm, WheelXFade, etc). It does do Keyswitching, though.

Yes, time for the big libraries to show up. The Vienna Symphony Orchestra which is something like 37+ gig in size works with EXS. They are working/pushing Emagic to make the EXS24 work well with their library. The sound quality is awesome - so bring on the biggies !!!

Skippy's Big Bad Loops BIGGIE SIZED? Each loop is the length of a whole song! Very Happy Actually, there are some Kuhl things you could do if size is not a concern. The EXS is getting impressive I must admit.

It is getting impressive but the User Interface Experience leaves a lot to be desired. I really like how GigaStudio and Kontact have a window that shows all of the patches/folders without having to hold down a mouse button to get the list first. This is just one of many areas (the editing it still caveman in approach) I hope they improve.

For MAC OS9 as well as OSX. I won't be going to OSX anytime soon. Have work to do, not a new OS to learn.

It takes longer to install OSX than it does to learn it. It's similar enough to 9 that you could work with it in no time.

I have OSX - but I work for companies using proprietary tools that are not coming to OSX. I have tons of plug-ins that are used daily in productions that won't be going to OSX. Is MetaSynth coming to OSX ?

I'll buy a new computer next year which will become my OSX based machine.....

Read the latest MacWorlds and Mac Addicts magazines, all they are doing is looking like PC magazines trying to help people get thru the problems 10.2 has given them. I know the OS - it's just that it's not going to help me make my living anytime soon.

How do you know it if you don't have time to learn it?

The people with problems must be doing something wrong cause I havn't had a single problem with 10 and since I installed 10.2 six weeks ago I also havn't had a single crash. I'm not disputing the fact that lots of people still need OS9, I do, just stating my opinion that OSX doesn't take a lot of time to learn. It should be familiar enough to any Mac user for them to be able to be up and running pretty much instantly.

OSX is great. I like the look of it a lot. If I was implying that that's the only thing holding me back from OSX (which I don't think I did) then let me corrrect my lil' statement by saying that from USB MIDI interfaces to 45 different applications that I use for my sound design/music production need to be on OSX and STABLE before I can switch my studio over to OSX only. Considering Apple is pushing very had to make Jan 2003 the end of OS9 as we know it, then all the vendors I use had better start converting now (and many of them are not).

Love OSX, just can't do any work with it.
