i have just written my first PC Vsti and would welcome any feedback on it. I have tested it with several hosts but only under Windows ME.

If anyone would care to check it out and offer feedback I would be extremely grateful. It's a sample based Mellotron emulation and it lives at www.batsounds.com

i tried this one right away just to see if there was any trouble with XP.
It runs fine, and sounds cool Very Happy

same question is on my mind about the flute.

Thanks guys. I'm working on the flute, you can hear it on the demo song but it's a bit rough at this stage. I'm going to put some effort into cleaning up all the samples but I needed some positive feedback as it's a tedious job Smile

So it sounds like you got thepositive feedback you needed to do the flute, right? :->

Cool, are these from your own Mellotron or something? I can never have enough Tron sounds so keep em coming this is really neat. And hey why stop at Flutes.

Just played with the quality slider a bit, you may want to try a bandpass or highpass filter instead as it would produce a more natural sounding worn out tape sound. But this is definately a neat plug, I'm really digging it. Thanks.

Thanks FB - that's a excellent idea. I'm going to have a play around with that. Smile

like it a lot. couple notes:
  • when the plug opens in cubase, it's noisy as heck, but I noticed that turning the quality knob down and back up to its initial maxed out position fixes it. I ended up thinking that though it looks all the way up initially, soundwise it's actually not.

  • IMO, whatever else the quality knob does, increasing the backgound noise isn't helpful under almost any circumstances, even if it is authentic Smile

  • the release shape seems to end a bit abruptly. I've seen this in other synths lately too, so maybe this is a default behavior, but I would prefer a smoother release personally. again, authentic doesn't really make a difference to me, just what I like.

Excellent! The choir is very good. If you have the time, you may want to expand the octive range of basic sounds. Each one now seems to have a very narrow sweet spot where the sound is exemplary, but the rest of the keyboard is not very usefull.

Good design. Simple and effective. Don't worry about exact copying. Go for the original concept, which is using longish tape samples that yeilded some very funky variations due to tape speed waver, tape sound degradation and various chorus effects due to the tapes playing a different speeds. It runs in XP and fruityloops quite well for me.

It is definitely a keeper. I find it more usefull than the current commercial product which did not work well at all for me. So my 2 bits is polish up the breath of the sample or sound source and your done!

Thanks for the feedback, everyone.

I'm going to play around with the quality control and the samples before giving it V1.0 status sometime next week (hopefully).

I appreciate you taking the time to look at this and the positive comments!

Sounds good! Just what I needed at the moment, too. Thanks a lot! You'll hear it in my contest entry this month. I agree with Funkybots suggestions. The quality slider does little to aid in realism (and this is what I expect you were trying to do). No matter. I tossed it through PSP's MixSaturator, and found myself in Moodycrimson bliss! Yes, flute, please!

I have downloaded this but I still haven't managed to play with it... If the Mellotron master [Scot] says it's good, I'm going to have to give it a spin! Very Happy Very Happy

Tristeza, you are going to love this! I am not, by the way, The Mellotron Master. I merely serve the mighty Mellotron. If there is someone who can master it, well, that's probably Har! But I DO love my 'Trons, and this is a great boon to all the people who might like a little "Hogweedy" goodness in their tracks. The choir definately has THAT sound...

Well, Scot, maybe I'll have to write a prog-rock ( Surprised Surprised ) tune to check this thing out! Is a time signature of 167/199 prog-rockish enough?! Very Happy Very Happy Laughing And how many key changes should I use? Will 50 be enough? The question go on and on... Smile Very Happy Wink

I think thirteen time changes in any given minute might be sufficient! Of course, you need NO encouragement to get even WEIRDER than you already are... Surprised Laughing Surprised Laughing
