Excuse me if this is a goofy question, but is there some doohickey that I can use to turn an audio input into MIDI that will drive other VSTs in AudioMulch? Thanks in advance O All Knowing KvRians...

Hey FreeJazzguy,
Maybe this is usable for what you want. http://digital-ear.com/ Look at the real-time version Cheers PA

This little guy was aimed at guitarists, but I've gotten good results from a mic and whatever else you can think of:

Thanks guys. I'll check these out. I've been using a wind controller to drive my VSTi's, but I'm really a sax player and I'd like to incorporate that into my MIDI setup.

Also the new Cubasis 4 does have such an animal as an VST-plug-in.

Can't recall the name of the thing though, sorry. Good luck, anyway.

I'd love to see what notes it derives from your leadline in "Candy Eating Teamsters" - man that track's insane

Yeah, I just think of the things I could do if I could drive the VSTi's with my sax, which is my primary instrument. I'm pretty sure I'd end up being institutionalized...

Scot, I checked the guitar synth you refer to here [many thanks for pointing it out to us] and was amazed at the easy to obtain high quality results. Other pitch recognition/transcription software I have used has been much more finicky to use and has been more unpredictable in results. The guitar synth documentation is very helpful. It zeroes in on what can go wrong and how to fix it [should be obvious but usually isn't wioth manuals] Guitar Synth is of course aimed at guitarists and bassists Any hope of them coming out with a more generalist model that can handle a bigger range than the guitar? A piano version would be great. GS handles chords and polyphony amazingly well. DirtWheel

I know I didn't start the thread but thanks to all of you that gave info. I had a similar question posted but dealt with guitar midi pickups and drivers. Since this is the cheaper route for now I definately think this is the way i'm going! Now I gotta d/l all the demo and play and see which one I like!
