AuthorTopic: Customising Synth 1

I got sick of the colour of Synth 1 so decided to try and customise it but what is all this #28283c stuff - why can't you just use the windows colour picker? Does anyone know how to convert this gobbledegook into english or better still, a real colour so I can see what I'm doing.

Thanks

They're standard RGB values in hex-each two letters(or numbers or combination therof) gives you a value of 0-255,where 00 is 0 and ff is 255. Fisrt two are red, next two are green and the last two are blue.

I would like this synth much more if it weren't so damn ugly!

It works like this; the first 2 digits of hexadecimal represent RED, the 2nd 2 digits = GREEN, the last 2 digits = BLUE.
e.g., if you want a greenish blue, try 0099FF

I suspect Daichi, the developer, is a professional programmer (that theory explains why he can write Synth1 in C and the assembly language). I guess the "ugly" GUI is actually stylish from a programmer's aesthetic.

OMG, already 3 posts while I was typing it!

I like a simple grey background of #808080 and black text of #101010.It may not look pretty but it's very easy on the eyes during long knob tweaking sessions.I don't think Synth1 is ugly but I would still love to see a gui like JXsynth or one of Bone's skins on her.The gui now is quite functional and that's all that really counts in the end.Kajiki can you put Ichiro and Bones in contact with each other just to see what would develop? Very Happy

Well...I think Synth1's GUI is elegant. But I'll suggest it in his user forum.

This is a great synth. The filters and sound are unique and I love the delays and arpeggiator.

Does anyone know if this puppy can be automated. Will it responds to CCs?

I thought it was ugly. After awhile the beauty of the sound caused me to like the look. That's what good associations will do, I guess.

I liked the U/I but that didn't stop me from playing around.

If you don't want to do the math, save the value of the original interface and change some digits. You'll find a color scheme fairly quickly that is useful.

Also the resizing of the interface is quite nice.

Of course the sound is brilliant and if it would have been purple and green I'd still use it. Very Happy

mistertoast, I agree, it happens with humans too. One of the loves of my life seemed very plain until I got to know her, then she became beautiful.

Thankyou Skygge - thats what I was looking for - I knew they were some sort of computer speak (hex shmex) but didn't know how to translate say a nice cerulean blue into this gobbledegook - I need a visual cue and was looking for an app that did this - how did you do that?

you're very welcome

i think i am the same kind of "visual" guy although i also understand the hexshmex stuff a little Shocked
doing that was quite easy, some html and a script i found on MSDN one day, some modifications here and there - voila Very Happy
it is nothing spectacular but quite usefull and it took only a few mins of time

enjoy,

with just better knobs, it would look a LOT better imho.
Anyway, to me, synth one gui is the best as its resizable...
If we have a textured gui which is still resizable, its ok.
If not...

Yep, doesn't work with my netscape 7 Sad

For those that need something like it that works outside your browser, go here:
http://ftp.sunet.se/nonags/htmlcolor.html
... and take your pick, they are all freeware Very Happy

I've decided - after trying lots of colours - that a nice neutral grey works best:

#9e9e9e

and I've set the size to 140% as I have a big display

Thanks all

ps - eventually came across a free utility that seems to work well and doesn't need to be installed too so its relatively safe:
