I'm interested in finding a vsti that can play samples, along with time stretching/compressing a la Acid. I think Kontakt does this, are there any cheaper alternatives?
I guess a cheaper way to do this is buy Acid, change samples in it, and then load them into a vsti sampler like DS404. Any other ideas? Or, maybe get Ableton, and rewire into host... hmmm... thanks sluggo

Or just acid as a VSTi Or acid with Rewire. Or just an acid 4 that works with my system 22

I have been wanting this for ages ... The best solution is to sync to Acid or render your VSTi's and import your loops into Acid otherwise : try Ruction, it's almost like having Making Waves inside your host. I've been meaning to buy it, but I keep thinking Acid is best loop sequencer around so... hope this helps

I'm slowly working on one... very slowly mind cos I'm reading up on my software engineering and trying to get the code really tidy (for demo purposes). I'll shout when it's ready/useable.
Have you tried pHATmatik Pro? regards, dunk

Yes, I have Phatmatik Pro. It's good for some beats, but with some of the vocal samples I've tried it doesn't work so well. Maybe someone has a tip for how to use Phat Pro effectively with vocal samples?

I still think Acid is the best loop sequencing/editing software around. It sounds so much better and smoother than .rex files in my opinion. If you work with loops alot you might wanna check out the Sonar 2.0 demo. It has Acid built-in basically.

Download the Fruity Loops demo and play with the Granulizer generator, which allows you to fit a wave file to a specific number of beats when it's triggered. Then remember that Fruity Loops Full is $99 and can be used as a VSTi. Then remember it comes with free lifetime upgrades, including v4 that's due out any week now. The decision should be easy.

You mean v 4.0 will be completely free for registered users? I thought since they are adding the "studio" part they might try to sell it as a completely new product.... Now I'm jazzed...Of course I own Stylus now and for the past couple of projects it's made Fruityloops my "Velvetine Rabbit"(sic) of my VSTi's.

Fruity Loops version 4 will be a free update like the dozens before, with lots of new features. FL Studio will be available 2 ways- as an upgrade for registered users of Fruity Loops and as an outright purchase for new users.

Thanks lwg, for the clarification.
I'm off to the Fruity loops sight to see what goodies are in store!

Yeah I tried the subtek timelooper, but couln't get any sound out of it in Orion ... As for Fruity I didn't think it did timestretching, I just thought it pitched the samples to fit a measure, correct me if I'm wrong ?

Have you tried Cronox 2?
It's got 2 oscs which can be either Analog, a time stretcher/compressor, a time looper (you can modulate the end and start point with an LFO or an envelope, wodwheel, ect) and a schrader (that schrades the samples It's got a modular routing scheme, fx and you can also FM between the oscillators. It's a little synth with lots of creative possibilities. Pat

Here's a preset that I made with Cronox 2:
http://www.geocities.com/zippy_dooda/ahoumcronox2.mp3 It's made with 2 schrader (a cymbal and a burp) that I fm together. It's not the timestreching thingy but you can hear how it sounds. Pat

Granulizer doesn't change the pitch when it stretches. Use the "Fit" option and you will see that it didn't pitch.

Did you try loading your sample into a Granulizer channel and using the "fit to" option, as I described pretty much verbatim above?

Hi sluggo. The key to using pHATmatik Pro for vocal and other non percussive samples is to edit the amplitude envelopes of the slices. PPro automatically gives each slice a quick decay, which is perfect for beats, but chops up vocals. The simplest way around this is to import your vocal sample, slice it, then click 'select all' in the slice edit section and remove the quick decay from the amplitude envelope. The envelope should end up looking more like a rectangle than a triangle. Hope this helps. Cheers. |
