Hi there,

I am desperately trying to find a VSTI that is capable of producing really good deep sounding bass lines (like the one's that you find in West Coast House Music - Onionzs, Sneak, Junior Jack ect).

I already have:

Jungalist
Tau Pro
Triangle II

I would really like to get hold of a double bass VST; as most of the music I am trying to produce at the moment would really benefit from this kind of sound.

Can anyone recommend the best VST's on the market for producing phatt - non electronic sounding basslines?

Thanks for your help.

If it is within your budget, I'd take a strong look at Trilogy. Covers the gamut of acoustic, electric and synth basses.

A smaller and cheaper, but also excellent (esp for acoustic and electric basses) is Sonic Reality's 'bass collection'

Dreamstation Dxi was godsend for me, many styles of basses can be made with this beauty check it out

I like to use the same kind of bass sound that you're looking for. I usually turn to SonicSynth for this, although I don't have the bass collection. These are probably the easiest routes to go. The bass collection is the cheapest and most specific. I haven't tried Trilogy, it's probably good too (although quite expensive).

A sampler would do the same thing, but you'd have to track down the samples that you want.

I've been trying to layer one of these bass sounds with a real low end synth bass, like a sine wave or something. Maybe this works, I'm undecided.

Randomrecordings, could you help me with a sound?
I want to produce the type of organ/piano sound:

It's very common in house music. I guess it's some sort of organ or piano with a bunch of effects on it.

thanks

I really don't know the style you're referring to, but if you want deep basses, Triangle II should allready be a fine choice. If you do however want double bass like sounds, a sampler seems to be the way to go. There's some brilliant multisamples of some double bass at www.echochamber.ch (in the EXS section, the samples are included as wave files).

Sascha, do you have or know of any setups using these bass samples for any common software samplers?

As said, these patches for Emagic's EXS sampler, so, in the zips there's an EXS file along with the wavefiles. HALion or Kontakt will import them properly and CDxtract or Chickensys Translator could transform them to any other of their supported formats (SF2 for instance).

Does that answer your question?

Cheers,

duh. not sure where my brain was when I posted that. I was just looking at the wave files and wondering if anyone had set them up, forgetting they were on an EXS pg in the first place. I'll go back to bed now...

I would give albino a try, it really has a wide range of Bass sounds but does not clutter the mix.

IBLit is freeware and has one of the best bottom ends I've ever heard on VSTi.

Try it first before you buy anyfink.

cheers,

erm....doesn't VB-1 produce these sort of sounds.....tis free. Alot of people disregard this VSTi as it was one of the first freebies from Steinberg, but it does do this sort of bass sounds quite well. It doesn't have any effects but just use the effects in your host....thats what they are there for!

Oh, and I see you have Traingle II. You really should download Triangle 1 from RGC coz it does have a sound all of its own. Some of the bass sounds I got from T1 I cannot reproduce with any other synth. It can really make your speakers rumble. Very Happy

Go with Trilogy, there are so many different types of basses, acoustic, electric and synth that you might very well never need another VSTI bass module.
