I finally tracked down the CPU problem in DREAMkILLER and I have posted a new version at http://www.orion-center.com
It also features slightly improved graphics and I've tweaked a couple of the presets. It should be 100% compatible with the old version so it is safe to overwrite the existing .dll with the new one. You should now find that there is only a slight increase in CPU load between mono and poly modes and the CPU goes straight back down when you go back to mono. Just for the record, I fixed the problem by playing around with the way the signal was fed to the delays and the configuration of the on/off switch.

Grabbing it now... | ||

I notice in FruityLoops if the Feedback gets too high the plugin seems to shut off. I'm wondering if this might be Fruity... hmm.
Anyways, I'm working on a preset bank for you for this thing

Actually, what's happening after doing it for the second time, is that the things spikes so high in cpu usage that it gets disabled.
It seems to happen when certain effects levels are turned all the way up.

I could stop it doing stuff like that by limiting the values for delay and feedback but that would limit the range of possibilities so I'd rather leave it how it is and let the user keep an eye on system resources. Sometimes infinite feedback can be fun.

You should taper it just a tiny bit though to keep this from happening - it really is only at the very edge.
anyway, here's some DREAMkILLER presets. http://www.sectionz.com/detail_goodies.asp?rtype=goodies&szid=57

Excellent Bones and Smart! You, Teksonik, and a myriad of others - looks great! Oh wow! The links area has all these great soundfont links, downloading now.... I hope I get to try DreamKiller and these presets tonight?

I agree about the taper. It's a bummer when you twist a dial and the synth screeches to a halt.

Thanks Bones,the Cpu issue is sorted and I can even get it to load .fxp's created in Fruity.Was something changed in the filter? My old patches don't seem to sound the same or I've gone daft.I'm going back now to work with DK some more and perhaps I'll discover it's just my ancient ears failing me, a most likely scenario.Thanks again for this wonderfull synth and all the hard work you have put into DreamKiller,it is greatly appreciated!

Smart,Great Patches! They really show off what the DreamKiller can do,excellent work!

thanks! | ||

God no! Once a SE project gets to a certain stage it becomes a bit of a nightmare to work with. Sorting out the delay was more than enough of a headache. Smart, thanks for the presets, there are some really beauties in there.

Had a blast again with Dreamkiller last night in Orion. Thanks again Bones, it's really a great synth!

John,I don't think you're doing anything wrong.On my system DreamKiller works fine in OrionPro but crashes Orion Platinum and I mean hard if I try to load an fxp or prs file.Really strange, you would think if it works in Pro it should work in Plat.I can get my patches to load in Pro just fine.Also in the latest version I could swear that the patches I did for the older version don't sound the same-something's missing.Or as I said earlier maybe I've taken complete leave of my senses.I'm going to spend more time with DK today and report back.If nothing else I can go back to the older version,keep it in mono and be perfectly happy.

John, I had no problem loading up either presets in ORION Platinum. The .fxp presets load one at a time and you don't see the new name in the preset box but all the parameters should change. I had a slight problem a few weeks back where the S&H On/Off buttons didn't always change when they should but that seems to have gone away, either in a later version of ORION or SynthEdit or the synth [I have no idea which]. It just worries me slightly that the same thing could be happenning to other, less obvious parameters and I am not hearing the patches as they are meant to be.

Ah Ha I'm not nucking futs.I went back to the older version of DreamKiller and indeed there is a difference in how the patches sound.It seems that the filter cutoff values are not recalled in the newer version when loading patches created in the older version (at least on my system, let me make that disclaimer).The Lfo destination values may have also been effected as one of the things I noticed in the newer version was the lack of "motion" that was present in the older patches.Again let me state that is on my system with my configuration.As an experienced Beta tester Bones you know what works on one system may not work on another.I have been waiting for the Platinum 3.8 update to settle in and it seems that we're at 3.84 and holding so I'll give it a try and that will probably solve the problem on my side.
As an interesting side note,fxp files created in Orion for DK are 33k in size while ones created in Fruity are only 1k in size.I opened the files with note pad and the Orion .fxp has a bucket load of additional numbers as well as the names of all the default patches included.This size disparity may be why Orion .fxp's sometimes won't load in other hosts.I've had this problem with several other synths,native coded as well.Anyway I love DreamKiller and thanks for all your hard work Bones!

Teksonik ... last OPlat version is 3.85 Bones ... this is a very good synth
| John Westwood | Posted: 5th February 2003 14:49 | |
Thanks Bones and Tek. And THK you sure are right. Get yourself to Orion Tek and get that 3.85, I think it fixes alot of that crash stuff? Has been smooth for me so far.
| BONES | Posted: 5th February 2003 15:53 | |
Teksonik - That sounds like the same problem I was having [see my last post]. Dunno what to do about it other than stop changing things which I have already done [or stopped doing
| Teksonik | Posted: 6th February 2003 10:24 | |
THK, ver 3.85 already?They slipped one past me.I'll download and install it this weekend,thanks.Maybe by the time I get there it will be 3.86 Bones,No worries here mate.I've gone back to the old version and am very happy with it.I'll just have to keep it in mono which is ok-sounds great anyway.I do hope you continue to develop DreamKiller it has such character and life.Thanks again.

Orion did have a slew of updates that began to make me worry. But atleast they are right on top of things when the fires erupt.
And I think all hotspots are out now. |
