I have seen a few bits and pieces about Chainer in the forum and want to know if it can help me use more than 4 instances of VSTis in Cubasis.
Is V Stack similar and if so - how do the prices compare?

YES ! And that's a definite YES ! And it can do a lot more while you're at it.
Download the demo and play around with it .., it will be the best 60 dollars you ever spend on a VSTi. And you will spend it ! BTW it's at http://www.xlutop.com, in case you didn't know [edit] Oops .. I missed the V-stack part in my first reply. V-Stack is a standalone program only - correct me anyone if I'm wrong - somewhat similar in the sense that you can load VSTi's in it, it functions as a VSTi host, but it is way more demanding on system resources and if you don't really use VSTlink it seems like overkill. It has mixing board and all that stuff. Check out the specs/prize at steinberg or here at kvr at http://www.kvr-vst.com/host.php?id=345. Chainer has many features that V-Stack hasn't. As far as what you say you need, it can be run as a standalone or as a plugin.. and even as a plugin in itself etc ... You can almost run an unlimited number of plugins in it ... (system dependant of course) .. Read the reviews here on KvR, http://www.kvr-vst.com/host.php?id=261 There's only so much words can say, better to download the demo - fully functional - and you will see what I mean. [/edit]

V-Stack is designed to be used as a standalone host on a 2nd (or more) pc with full submixing (sx style) and vst.time.info (time based plugins)
it sounds like chainer is more what you need. check the demo.

Chainer is quite nice but hopeless overpriced. For the 60EUR what chainer costs you get a complete virtual studio consisting of a cut-down version of logic audio and samplitude, a soundfont-player and several plug-ins. It's called Sound Studio 2003.
This only to compare the price and what you get for it.

I could not disagree more ... it just depends on what you need ... and I did ... and it looks like the person asking about Chainer here does NOT need another complete virtual studio. Chainer is the best 60 euro I've ever spent on anything VST related, because it solved several problems I needed to adress that no other comparable app could. The comparison is way off as far as I'm concerned.

yep ! Just like the Blair government's Intelligence Report on Iraq ... he scores an own goal !! Nice try ... Goodbye PS : Why would anybody get into an old cheap version of Logic Audio now that they have become a pure Apple/Mac app. Sounds like a waste of time... no matter how. Although 60 euro ... is of course .. CHEAP !

[quote="dmholtof"] sold an echo mia I bought for 50 $ to somebody for 200.
He's selling it for 100 now .... .... guess who ?quote] You mean I am not the only sucker around Back on topic. I think Chainer is ideal for what you want to do. Download the demo and give it a try, since it is fully functional.

Thanks everyone for the feedback...even if it did cause some heated debate.
Have downloaded the Chainer demo and will check it out tonight. I know Cubasis is...well, basic, but it does everything I need (apart from the limit on VSTis). Tell you what I would like though...a CR78 VSTi clone. Any suggestions?

Hi Bezza,
enjoy Chainer ... Thomas, the developer is a great guy as well ... he even replied to some emails of mine that had absolutely nothing to do with Chainer and he was very helpful in solving the non-chainer-related-problem I was dealing with ... that will be very hard to find.. you're lucky if you find (any)(good) support in some cases ... highly recommended, if I'd have an award he'd be nominated for it If cubasis is fine/comfortable for you that's all that matters .. we don't judge each other here by comparing the size of our sequencers |
