Yes, it's true. This is the version the yahoo group members have been enjoying, plus a couple of new features.

If you haven't tried Crystal for a while, you might want to check out this new version. The oscillators and filters have been enhanced and there are many new presets to check out.

Well, I don't know about selling your soul Smile, but yes, I would encourage any Crystal users to join the Crystal users group:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/crystal-users/

I'll be posting a series of mini-tutorials to the users group with Crystal tips and tricks. So if that would be interesting to you, be sure to join.

Thanks a bunch Glenn!Smile And not to sound 'dissin' or 'tick you' in anyway -
(As so many here seem to have their panties in a bunch over lately?) but why reverb? As far as I know, reverb is always a CPU hog, and Crystal is pretty intense as is. And in these days of Orion, Muzys, Reaktor and all that, wouldn't it be more prudent just to advise inserting a reverb if need be?

Or unless you found a 'secret recipe' to go easy on the CPU?Wink

The reverb's just a refinement of the delay lines already in Crystal.Actually, there's hardly a hit on the CPU at all(or at least that I've noticed).

That's right. One of the uses of Crystal is for atmospheric pads and ambient reverb is often an intrinsic element for such a patch. With earlier versions you had to use at least 2 of the delay lines to create that ambience, but with reverb you can do it with only one, leaving the remaining delays available for other uses.

Regarding performance, each release of Crystal has seen gradual improvements in performance. I'm always looking for ways to improve performance and will continue to do so in the future.

However, simple VA synths have been done before, the point of Crystal is to produce something more ambitious. So, by its very nature, Crystal will never be light on the cpu. 6 oscillators, 6 tempo-syncable LFO's, 7 filters, 12 multipoint tempo-syncable envelopes, 90+ modulation targets, wave sequencing, program morphing, wave shaping, limiting, FM synthesis, granular synthesis, soundfonts, alias-free oscillators, band splitter, built-in tempo-syncable FX, etc... If you're taking advantage of these features, then yes, you'll see an increase in your cpu usage. But I'm always on the lookout to make sure that increase is as small as possible.

Hey that patch bank browser in the new version is great. Every virtual synthesizer should have that.

Good stuff Glenn.Smile Tried it out last night, and all works like a charm. I got worried for a moment that the patch banks may not work again, but they do - phew!Smile It's certainly a super powerful synth, and I do like those BIG voices. But good to see you're on top of it to not let CPU usage get out of control.Wink

Keep up the excellent work! Very Happy

A lot of people have been asking about the patch browser in the new version, so I've written a tutorial which shows how to make the most out of this feature.

I posted the tutorial to the yahoo group, or you can find it on the "Info" page at the Crystal web site.

Crystal web site: http://www.greenoak.com/crystal
Crystal yahoo group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/crystal-users/

If you have questions, feel free to post to the yahoo group, send me email, or reply here.
