| Author | Topic: A HUGE Synth1 VSTi/DXi question! |

The question raised about getting Synth1 to respond to MIDI CC# controllers, and I suggested this can be done in Orion et al. I tried it last night, and came up with some even bigger questions - and maybe I've installed Synth1 wrong? In Orion, if I pull up Synth1 as a DXi plug in, it responds to PC messages from my keyboard to scroll through it's voices in a bank, great. BUT, it won't adhere to any 'Link To Next Controller' and such? If I pull up Synth1 from my VSTi list, I can link to MIDI controllers and wiggle my mod wheel, and the knobs moves great. BUT, it won't respond to PC messages to scroll through voices now? I have Synth1 in my Program Files, and also copied into Orion's VST folders - is this a no-no? Which is the best way to install Synth1 - kill it from Program Files, or kick it out of Orion? | |

The no automation as a DXi is a known "feature",so there's really nothing you can do about that.

Well, firstly Synth1 has a curious method of accessing banks/patches.
In Chainer, I was able to find a "program increase" parameter. It's unnamed so you have to scroll to the bottom of the parameter list. It's the third one up. If you "learn" that say to a button, you can send a prog change via midi. I', assuming from what you say that a regular prog change won't work. Now, I tried quickly in Orion, but it didn't work the same. If you can be arsed to experiment, it's possible that one of the parameters (one of those called 'sc1, 2tune') will send a prog increase command. Midi learn them to a button and see if it sends a prog increase. Presumably there are also parameters in there for prog decrease, bank increase/decrease. I hope that makes sense to somebody Steve T |
