so let me get this straight; this can load vst & vsti and useless cpu power compared to normally loading them into your host? i poked around on the chainer web site and it was sorta vauge and i read som eof the reviews and it seems that this thing is sent from heaven. any other comment s would be greatly appreciated.

its time for me to buy another plug in BUT the imposcar and intakt are not out yet!

You can download the demo and try. It is fully functional, but u can't save presets. Let me give you examples of how I may use it.

Channel 1
Slot 1: z3ta+ layered motion pad
Slot 2: mobilohm phaser
Slot 3. Synth 1 arp
Slot 4: Ohmboyz

Channel 2
Slot 1: Pentagon pad
Slot 2: Ohmboyz delay
Slot 3: crystal

I use midi cc's to control the relative level of the two channels (and individual slots in the channels), and can get some moving, varying rich pads. These are just examples. You can do a lot more.

prog

I switch from channel 1 to 2 in real time by using CC's to

ok that is alot...and your computer does not smoke and scream???

ok second question.

are you using this set up in a song with other wavs or jsut using it as more of a perfomance type set up?

I tend to use it in a performance type setup, but I know others use it in other ways. My system doesn't smoke, but I have a pretty powerful one (xp2000+, 512 MB RAM).

As prog said, download the demo .. this little gem is so interesting that trying to describe the possibilities is "a mission impossible".
If you use it in conjunction with FFX16 or CONSOLE you can even use DX effects or instruments in it.

Don't forget you can also use Chainer as a pluging in itself... that allows for some really weird setups. Use the soundfont save option in case you want to use some VSTi sounds in reason (rewire may be in a future update ... they're looking into the license for rewire.. seems somewhat tricky so far).

I use it for - pretty complicated - studio setups, with lots of layering of instruments and fx. Only coffee is higher on my things-to-have-around list Very Happy

well i went and DLed it maybe i missing the point or maybe im just to dumb to use it.i tried to get it to crash; fm7 junglist crystal it did not crash but it did start shuttering. and my cpu meter creeped up towards the 45% range. if you were to use that in a composition with other wavs and fx you computer would explode Surprised

i dont know maybe i was asking the impossible expecting all of my vst vs cpu issues to be sloved with one single plug in. Rolling Eyes

maybe your system needs some re-tuning, more than a processor upgrade ... how many system tasks/services etc do you have running (in the background) ...

I use a PIII 1.0 Ghz laptop (yes laptop) most of the time ... so I don't kow if your system as such is the cause of whatever the problem might be .. (hmm interesting sentence that... Very Happy)

And of course, CPU hungry VSTi's will remain that ... Chainer is not the miracle cure for those ... (Snake Oil would be great name for a VSTi though..)

P4 @ 1.5GHz with 512 rambus

not the most powerful system but....

It seems like you are expecting Chainer to somehow stretch your CPU further.

Other than the fact that you don't have to load a full featured sequencer to play your VSTis,all your plug-ins are still going to consume just as much CPU,more or less, whether you load them in Chainer,SX or Fruity Loops.

The whole point is "why use a sequencer, when you don't need to 'sequence' ?"

Actually... I found that instruments and FX loaded into Chainer as a plugin within Fruity will sometimes use *less* CPU than simply loading the instruments and FX directly into Fruity -- even with the "smart disable FX" options turned on in Fruity.

Maybe the Fruity VSTi wrapper isn't as optimized as Chainer's or something?

That said, I haven't bought Chainer yet (eventually...) and bounce heavy hitters to individual WAVs when my CPU starts stumbling, or when it starts to take 2 hours to render a 3 minute song Smile

I have never used chainer for CPU reasons, but rather for performance, but I tried z3ta+ and crystal, my most cpu hungry VSTi's layered together last night and I got to 35% CPU, but I have a decent machine, so I am not sure that really means anything.
