AuthorTopic: About Absynths presets !!!

I have had Absynth (PC) for a while now after been
offerd it for a special price , but not really gotten
round to doing much with it.

Inspired by Fitches work with Absynth and thinking
it might be just the job for a track I am working on
I had a browse through all the patches to find something
that might be suitable for what I had in mind.

I must say I am very impressed with Absyth and its sound
sculpting potential but I am very dissapointed both by the
presets that it comes with and its preset handeling.

A large number of the presets seem to be of an experimental
nature made by randomly tweeking parameters , others I can
only describe as harsh disonant noize , and I fail to see
what possible use the sequenced bpm patches that go dible-
de-doh-dip-wible-wible and play a riff, are unless they are
created by design for a specific tune could be .

Saying that, I did find a some very nice usable patches
so I decided to weed out the chiff from the chaff and compile
a bank from the patches that I did like and discard the rest.

I could find no way to export a single patch in stand
alone mode , no problem I thought ! just open it in Cubase
and use the VST patch/bank save/load function and save them
as .fxp files.
I spent several hours saving individual patches in this
way and had them all organised by type eg leads , pads fx etc.
I then attempted to load them back and compile a bank but
was really disapointed to find that it had not saved the individual
patch but instead the whole bank that the patch was in. Mad

I can't see any other way to do this and to me this mars
what is otherwise a excellent and inovative synth. Rolling Eyes

BTW my criticism of the presets above is my own personal
taste and as much as I dislike them they may be maner from
heaven to other users.

I will just have to knuckle down and create my own patches
but even then I would like the flexability of been able
to export a patch from one bank to another.

you can't export patches, but you can import. So let's say you want to make a bank of bass patches. Open a File/New bank, then Save as "Basses". Then File/import preset and open any other banks and import patches into your bass bank, save it, and you got it. Do the same for Leads or whatever.
People whine an moan about this process, but it really goes fast and is a great system I think.

yeah like he said

you just create a blank bank

then do "import preset"

you can then chose as many presets as you wish without starting over agin for each + you get to preview them(by highlighting them and playing)

much better
