AuthorTopic: DR-008 Error Loading Library
Jazz Rat

I am experimenting with DR-008 in Sonar 2.0 and am having the following problem. When I install an instance of the DR-008 in the effects bin of an audio track I get the following error message 5 times: Error loading library. After loading a kit, DR-008 seems to run fine. If I save and close the file, I will get the same error message 5 times when I reopen the file - very annoying. I have checked the configuration menu and all the paths are set up correctly.

Any ideas? Confused

Hi,

Which version of DR-008 do you have?

Regards,
Angus.

Is it the one that came with SONAR XL 2, a demo version, or one you bought from us?

Wait a sec! I just ordered Sonar 2.2 XL because one of the cool things about it is the inclusion of DR-008. Are you saying this is not a full version of DR-008 that comes with Sonar 2.2 XL? Looking at the XL specs it says: "XL includes the FXpansion DR-008 DXi drum sampler".

Nowhere does it mention anything a it being a demo version. Sounds like bait-and-switch to me! What up?

Hi Steven,

The DR-008 included with SONAR XL2 is a full version - the reliable and rocksolid v1.01SR - but it does not include the v1.11 update (equally reliable, but a bunch of new features), forthcoming free updates (ditto), and access to the 800MB kit library. There is a $49 upgrade path from the SONAR XL2 version which gets you access to all of that.

Most people seem to go for the upgrade simply on the basis of the extra kits - for the price of a WAV sample CD you get 100+ ready-mapped drum kits.

Regards,
Angus.

Sorry, I don't want to nit-pick here, but according to the fxpansion web site, DR-008 comes with the 800 MB worth of kits.

That's why DR-008 comes with a huge (800+MB) and comprehensive (100+ kits, from rock and jazz acoustic kits to abstract IDM electronics and pretty much every vintage drum box ever built) library of ready-made kits.

I would hardly call the version that comes with Sonar XL the "full" version if it does not come with this library. One can easily be misled by the Cakewalk website into thinking it is indeed the full version. It just rubs me the wrong way when you are left to discover these little facts AFTER you purchased something that supposedly included this "full" version.

Hi Jazz Rat. You replied to my post in the FXpansion forum regarding a similar problem as I had. Well, I've finally got mine figured out. Hopefulyy so have you, but if not, here's the answer to my problem(s). The 1st was when I opened the dr008 in a track, and that error loading library thing appeared. Well, I also had a reference string of letters and numbers appearing with the message. I checked in my Program Files on My Computer, and located that letter/number string, and it was related to a driver for my midi controller keyboard. So I just moved it to a new folder, and that was that problem sorted. The 2nd problem was to do with loading in my own .wav samples. I noticed that on the "configuration" screen that the "remember last path" options for kits, samples, modules &presets was set to "on", so I just disabled them, and that solved that problem too. Simple in the end, huh?! Hope this is of some help to you if you've still got the problem. Regards, Bazzman.
