AuthorTopic: Atmosphere on two pc's - System Link
AbsolutNut

I have two p.c.'s running with system link & networked (wireless).

I have Atmosphere installed on one p.c. with the core sample library also installed on that p.c.

I wish to install Atmosphere on the second p.c. but still access the same core sample library on the original p.c. I want to avoid duplicating the sample libary on the second p.c.

Can I do this?

Hi AbsolutNut ,
AFAIK Atmosphere will not complete it's installation untill all 6 CD's have loaded .
So without installing the "core sample library" I don't think you can
actually install the Atmosphere engine and authorize it .

What you could do (I think) is install it complete with sample library on PC2, then hack the registry to point to PC1 (provided you've got regular networking as well as system link) and then delete the library file from PC2.

Sound loading would be very slow if you are accessing the core library from another Pc. I remeber a thread here earlier where someone was complaining that sounds took up to 60 seconds to load through a network. Eric Persing advised him against using a network drive.

Heck, I get cranky waiting for some of those patches to load on a local system. I wouldn't even want to fiddle with it over a network.

yikes.. over a wireless connection (which is 10x slower) it might take up to 600 seconds (five minutes Shocked )

I'd much rather you do a search for the topic since I don't own Atmo and am only recalling what I'd read about it.

I thought I'd mention it because it seemed that the person involved had already undergone the network arrangement propoed in this thread and found it not too functional.

Yeah sixty seconds is a hell of a long time, especially if you're auditioning patches. 10 patches would also take 600 seconds Very Happy even if you just hit middle c and lisen to the sound evolve a bit that's fifteen minutes and you haven't even started writing yet.

I will prob just install the whole thing again on the second pc. My only concern was that with this new era of sample based instruments, they are gonna eat hard drives.

Prob the way I will go however - still worth it for the sheer quality though.

Thanks again.

yeah you can not access the sounds the way you wanted to do it very well AT all.....just install it on both.
more ram=faster loading times.....on a usual patch which is around 20-30 megs (average patches some are more....64 megs) with a gig of ram on a xp2400+ it takes about 1 second to switch sounds.....which I love, because I do not lose the creative juices

Run out of hard drive space? God, you can pick up a GOOD 80 gig drive for $100 now, or a 180 gig drive for $170. That's a small chunk of change, but nothing I'd sweat about esp if you already had the cash to pick up Atmophere in the first place. Smile
