You heard right.
It is 16-part multitimbral. And like many of it's users I think it IS better than Kontakt in spite of what Kontakt-customers, most of whom have only glanced at HALion's potential, say.

gertwynens,
I'm very interested in hearing why many Halion users think Halion (2.0?) is better than Kontakt. I'm just about ready to buy my first software sampler (demos before

The one thing that would set them apart in my book is that HALion can stream samples from the hard drive a la Gigastudio, while Kontakt is a RAM based sampler. They are both really good in thier feature sets, but to make a better choice, I would go to your local music store and give them a run through.

Kontakt has some really nice wave editing features that i think are better than halion, kontakt is also a much much much less of a memory hog halion gobbles ram. halion 2.0 will be very nice because it has 24 break point waldorf filters but then again kontakt has a step sequencer that can be used to change volume, pitch, filter cutoff etc. i own both and i really think kontakt has alot more features that haliion. i think halion is prettier looking if that counts for anything lol
