A Moment of Your Time

...or in this instance 2:10 of your time.

6 instances, no additional processing. Some of the parts remind me of my old FS1r.

Kind of a Tangarene Dream, Klaus Schulze thing.

Way cool.

How hard was it to make those voice-like, eh, voices? Are those completely from scratch, or did they start with some suitable sample/waveform?

Oh, six instances, that means it's not multi-timbral?

Mmm...nice one, x_bruce. Cool

Yup, the Cube is definitely going on the old ”to buy” list. I already have more stuff than I can make any sensible use of and in a feeble attempt to at least put some kind of leash on my gear lust, I’ve decided only to go for synths that can give me something radically different from what I have. The Cube seems to fit that bill.

(Ain’t it funny how you can always convince yourself that you need another VSTi? Very Happy )

My limited experience of additive synthesis was basically that ”everything sounded like bells”. The Cube has definitely shattered that conception. Embarassed

This is Shocked !

I already suspected it, but now I'm sure that Cube will be mine.
Any hint about the price ? And about CPU usage ?

Thanks for this wonderful demo
Cheers

I'm glad you guys find it interesting. Right now CUBE is still in beta but VirSyn gave me permission to do a couple of demos.

The patches are from the included libraries. This is intentional. I wanted people to hear how interesting the sounds were that I'm pretty sure will be included. As far as programming, it's hard to say, I think programming CUBE is execptionally easy. Much of it is graphical. Unlike TERA, CUBE focuses on additive synthesis and has less territory to cover so the basics are easy to learn.

It's a deep synth in that you can do things with it, as you heard, that are not comon to other VSTis. I think anyone can play around and create a useful sound in a few minutes although it does take time to have a good understanding of how to get things done.

If you're familiar with Absynth there are some similarities with multi-breakpoint envelopes and additive oscillators drawable. As for voice type patches CUBE is outstanding because it uses additive and formant filters so morphing between timbres can create very convincing voice sounds and articulations. However, it is simpler than Absynth to work with and has a significantly different sound. Prices are at VirSyn's web site. I use a Athlon XP1700 and with 6 instances of CUBE it idles at about 35% and at it's highest, in play, reached about 67%.

Considering the complexity that's not bad at all. And more important it's super stable.

Hello,

Outstanding demo. From both a sound and musical point of view.

Thanks René, I owe you a demo or two. I promise to put similar attention to z3ta+'s demos too. Smile

Oh my Surprised !That sounds seriously cool,Bruce. And at a lot less CPU load than I'd imagined.Guess it's one for my list, too.

Very sood iDavid. Like I said, this thing is rock solid.

After using Reaktor and coming back to CUBE it might seem a letdown but CUBE, for what it does, and that's quite a bit, has Reaktor beat. Reaktor 4 can sure suck up your time but now I'm going back to the basics, CUBE, z3ta, Rhino, Oddity which is seeing more and more play time, AnaMark II, etc.

ew, the CPU varies. Like most large scale synths you get a whole lot of sound out of one note and can scale back CPU intensive calculations for pad type sounds that will require triads and larger voicings. I don't want to make people think the CPU is economical. It isn't, but it is reasonable for what CUBE is. Besides, how many people here would honestly use 6 pads at the same time? Smile

For me, a K5000 fan, CUBE was a dream come true and as you hear, it has a similar quality with no sample data, that's really impressive to me. Other than being an excellent controller, I no longer miss the K5000s.

CUBE is going to give Absynth a run for it's money. They aren't all that alike but should appeal to the same audience. Sound quality wise, and keep in mind I'm a huge Absynth fan, CUBE creams it. Bell clear but not like the old Kurzweil additive synth that sounded like it wouldn't know warm if it was bit on the ass.

I know additive isn't a new technology but keep in mind I was beta testing this when I was complaining about new technology synths not being represented well. CUBE was always in the back of my head as it's one of the first soft or hardware additives to really sound good and actually do what it says it will plus it has many forward looking interface ideas.

Scot did a great job with the patches as did the other sound designers. Mine were way too weird! Laughing

In the end, CUBE is very much it's own synth but undoubtably will get compared to others. I hope clueless fools don't complain that it's not analog sounding. Laughing Laughing

Hi Guys,
The CUBE is shipping as of June 2nd, with a MSRP of $249....
It kicks ass, and I enjoyed making patches for it along with the other sound designers...
Call your local dealers asap to place it on pre-order!
Very Happy

There will be more Scot. I enjoyed your sneak peak as well. Smile musictech, I didn't know you were one of the sound designers.

I can't believe I did the demo on the release date. I'd like to say it was careful planning on my part but it was blind luck. Laughing

I hope Harry and Christiane (the nice people at VirSyn) have some time to chill out, it must have been a intense time. I'd love to know what kind of research Harry put into CUBE. Additive is always difficult and with the demo available I'm sure people will see it's comprehensive.

Actually, I wonder about that a lot with many of the designers. It would be interesting to find out what kind of time and research Rene or 'Tick did on their synths.
