Its an additive resynthesiser and I reckon its good for making Scot Solida drool in anticipation...

absolutely nothing, say it again, huh.......
Oh sorry that's war, my mistake

thanks for the kind explanation, i wouldn't have guessed so... to be more precise: what is a "128 band noise generator", and what is it good for? usually one source of noise (all frequencies covered) should be enough as a source for a formant filter...

to be more precise:
what is a "128 band noise generator", and what is it good for? I would guess that its a noise generator that has its output more precisely definable than normal, ie what you might perceive as 128 'noise partials'. If its doing resynthesis, that possibly allows it a better approach to noise components of sounds.... usually one source of noise (all frequencies covered) should be enough as a source for a formant filter... Well there, much of the noise (ie outside the range of the formant filter) is redundant. With an 'additive' approach to noise, you could do it without a filter.

Hi,
A '128 band noise generator' is equivalent to having a 128 band EQ processing a white noise source - as whyterabbyt correctly points out. And what its good for, is accurately reproducing the noise components of a sound. No previous synthesiser has allowed such control over the noise components of the sound, which is cruically important for effective resynthesis. Thanks Ben

thanks so much for the explanation, whyterabbyt and ben!
can't wait to hear the first soundexamples... from the specs and with all the noise and formantfilters it reminds me to yamaha fs7 (or was it fs1, or 5?)...

I was wondering when we'd start to hear about this! It's a little bit on the pricey side, but it looks like it's worth the money. I'm a big believer in CamelPhat so my guess is this thing will be very, very cool. |
