AuthorTopic: "other" vsts/dxs: mixers/ sequencers/ HD/ midi?

I recently began using the Console sound modular studio- I was intrigued to discover two VST modules that you don't see very often: a piano-roll sequencer plug-in and the Subtek CMX844 mixer-

this got me to wondering- all you ever really see is instrument and FX plugs- BUT WHAT ABOUT UTILITY MODULES? like sequencers/ mixers/ HD players/recorders [with standard tape control- not sampler instruments] midi LFOs and the like? Question

is there a site with a comprehensive list of non-instrument/non-effect vsts/dx plug-ins? anyone know of any useful-but-unsung tools along these lines?

it seems like everyone is too eager to either create instruments/fx- there are FAR to many important and obvious devices that are either non-existant or very rare!

I know that most musicians use the integrated facilities of ther sequencer- but many DON'T or like me- prefer bare-bones modular hosts where you can fully customize your work environment- we need more sequencers and mixers! Smile

Funnily I was thinking about the same tonight--as I'm deep into fiddling with Bidule. I know about Subtek's mixer but what's that VST step sequencer with piano roll you're talking about? There's Tobybear's Stepper VST sequencer but it's more of a 303-ish thing (no piano roll). Could you give some more info please! Help
Thanx in advance!
Yes, and talking 'bout "non-instrument/non-effect vsts" you should definitely visit Toby's site!

The Console Sequencer is just a free VSTi that is included with the demo- [i'm not sure if you can keep using it after the demo expires]- I haven't tested it much- so I don't know how well it works in other programs-

And also you coul check out Tape It! by Silverspike Software--it's an excellent little freebie Audio Out VST recorder and marvellous Tape Stop by sorry-can't-remember-who-but-he's-from-this-forum:oops: , which is...erm..a tape stop! Like in the good ol' days! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Tape-It is probably the most important and useful VST I use Cool

just stick it anywhere you want and record as you see fit- In fact- Tape It is pretty much my primary [no multitrack] recording device- I use it to record EVERYTHING from samples to sessions to final mixdowns

How about this:

First screenshoot of Cyberride in action.
Simplicity of old fashioned perspective/way of classical "tracking" sequencing combining powerful timestamped MIDI events engine (no hard step/grid, totally sample accurate free events) with zooming, event moving, timerulers, full standard MIDI files support (import/export), host send/receive sync, and special support for Bidule's full modullar concept with (allowing rewire device slave, Independent 16 midi ports per instance, etc)

It also works in Cubase SX and 100% compliant VST hosts that can re-route midi events received from plugins.

I just found these while surfing:

http://www.smartelectronix.com/~dunk/

the last two plug-ins are a drum seq and step seq [with piano roll note input]

I'm going to try them this evening!

urg - sorry - my MIDI plugs aren't very good - first plugs I made. I didn't make em very well so they don't really work properly in a fair few hosts.

However, I do really like the idea of plugins as sequencer "middleware" - providing functionality that may be missing in one app or just doing it slightly differently - i.e. I'm working on making Scrubber into a plugin that can work as a beat/loop slicer/repitcher and also as a tempo-synced audio track (as well as a bunch of silly granular stuff I hope). well, talk is cheap so we'll just have to wait and see how that turns out Wink

I am planning to go back and redo the MIDI plugins properly as I really wanna build some bits and bobs for use in EnergyXT and Bidule etc.

cheers for the info about Console - I never properly checked out that app and the step sequencer could be really useful (and look a WHOLE lot better than mine Wink)
regards,
dunk

That does look pretty cool, arguru. I just have one question. WTF is the coder of DiscoDSP running a demo copy of Discovery Question Wink

Very Happy , nice, well

#define DEMO_VERSION
#ifdef DEMO_VERSION
...
#endif

says it all,

At that time , the discovery build has "demoversion" enabled in compiler directives.
