AuthorTopic: Can U Name Any SoftSynth Remakes of HardWare Gear???
skywalka
Posted: 12th June 2003 03:06
Thought it would B interesting 2 C what SoftSynths R designated remakes of Hardware synths. I didn't realise that was the inspiration for so many programs.

This link listed some.
http://emusician.com/ar/emusic_real_emulated/index.htm

I've picked up on a couple others by hanging around these boards.

Sequential Circuits Prophet-5 emulated by Native Instruments' Pro 52
Rhodes electric piano - Emagic's EVP88 & Applied Acoustics' Lounge Lizard EP-1
Hammond B-3 - Native Instruments' B4 & Emagic's EVB3
Yamaha DX7 - Native Instruments' FM7
Hohner D6 Clavinet - Emagic's EVD6
Nord Lead - Disco DSP Discovery
MiniMoog - Steinberg Model E

Also the e-phonic SawBox VST is apparently a version of a 303 but I don't know who made the 303.

Now there's a concept.
Hardware versions of VSTIs.
I vote for Z3ta+. Very Happy

Oh Yeah! There's a vsti version of the Jen SX1000 , too.
It's found at .... http://www.contralogic.com/synths/
It's called Leto.

Nice tip, scuzzphut. Those Contralogic VSTis are excellent.

Rack Attack made a big splash here in that it probably is the first software to hardware port. I think the software is easier to deal with than the hardware from the few times I've been able to work with it.

Prime candidates for porting:
z3ta
Rhino
VerSyn Tera and Cube
Absynth

I doubt it will never happen as all of these synths are highly programable and would need good user interfaces and control surfaces. They'd cost a lot of money too.

more realistic candidate for porting:
Junglist
Pentagon
Albino
rack modules of the synths in the other list with editing done using the same UI as the soft synths.

The bigger question would be whether any company would make it worth the developers time to port to hardware. I have no doubt that we'll see such things frequently in the near future.

Dash Synthesis' daHornet is a Wasp.
Oh and their ComboSister is a neat generic combo organ, dunno if that counts but it's useful.
And Elogoxa's Sun Ra is an emu of part of his brain...I think..but that's wetware.

Let's not forget the MANY emulations released as Reaktor .ens. From
Roland to Oberhiem to ARP. Speaking of blurring the lines between
hardware and software howzabout Akai? Can't hardly wait for their
release of Z8! Very Happy Oh yeah, and Arturia claims that their next project
will be an emu of the venerable Oberheim Matrix 12 possibly to be
followed by a Yamaha CS80 clone.

There have also been quite a few hardware synths
and FX recreated with Synthedit. EMS Synthi, ARP 2600, EH Microsynth,
Roland TR-707, 808 & 909...etc.

Cheers....CL Embarassed

What about the Elogoxa emulation of an EMS VCS3? I went to their website to check it out and it isn't there anymore. They did have Elotronnix 2 (or however it's spelled), a virtual Revox recording rig for Frippertronics, however.

The only analogue synth I ever owned was an Oberheim Matrix 1000. I know it's a preset machine but I'd love to have those sounds just the same...

it's not a preset machine at all. you could always fully program it using sounddiver or explorer1000.
then it even feels like a plugin... Cool

What is explorer 1000? I've tried Sound Diver but it doesn't fully support my ASR-10 so if there is something else out there I'd like 2 give it a go.

The VCS3 emulation was by Richard Brooks, it's still available on his website:

Crazy Diamonds is a Solina String Machine as well.

SoloStrings is an 'emulation' of an acoustic guitar (not quite the hardware you're on about).. Stratavarious is guitar too.

infact most of the PM stuff is supposed to be a software copy of hardware/ real insrtruments, even tho' it rarely sounds in tune...bends too much for me, solostr seems pretty good tho.

What I would like is a VSTi of my old Korg Delta, or my mates Yamaha CS30. Actually a CS80 would be nice, but the touch strip would (of course) be missing... but then it is on most of the one's I've seen anyway!

Nice thread this!
