Hi guys,
a friend of mine have just heavily modified a user library ensemble for reaktor, making a good UI and modifing the sequencer.
A good TB303 Emu in my opinion.
Have a look to the user library newest synth and put some feedback please!

why don't you put it in the Reaktor area of sectionz.com ?

help us get the Reaktor area going! Smile

Fair enough, but isnt the TB probably the most over-emulated synth on the planet?

I mean I'll try it out, but its not exactly an MS-20 now, is it Smile

I must admit this sounds pretty fucking good indeed. Oh yes. Very Happy

...and it looks like the real thing too Smile

IMO, there's no such thing as too many 303 emulations!

This thing looks great. Can't wait to try it out...how did you make the GUI?

Yes...a great GUI. But one things bugs me. Why have authentic knobs for some parameters but then use the default reaktor knobs for other parameters?

Question

OK...I just noticed that 90% of this ensemble looks like the VariOS plug. I'm not at my Reaktor computer now, so I'm really curious about this: Do the knobs for Tempo, Pattern, and Mode function (the knobs that don't look like Reaktor stock ones), or are they only there for looks?

Every knob, button and switch works as it should Smile

I was wondering myself whether the GUI was ripped from VariOS screenshot Laughing

actually the graphic was made with screen captures from varios...
was impossible to make knobs continuos knobs (127 grabbing...): too tiring and too much heavy.
Actually the tempo knob does not work.
The synth is synched with the reaktor tempo in standalone, and in the host tempo in vsti.
I like it a lot!

Hi There,
I'm the guy that did it!
Thanks for the positive reaction, but again I think that all the credits need to go to Benjamin Suthers that did the original TB303 emulation for Reaktor.
I have always been fascinated by the TB303 sound.I used to play a lot with a real one from 1983 to 1984.Then Acid House came out in 1987/88 and again TB303 was responsable for the sound.Than rebirth came out and the same feeling was almost back!
In march I have seen at the Frankfurt Music Messe the Vari OS TB303 emulation. The sound of it was very good. The only problem with it is that when You use the TB emulation You can't do anything else with the machine and just to do this is very expensive(maybe 1300 Euros!).So when I bought Reaktor 4 I downloaded the Benjamin Suthers TB303.The sound was great(very acid) but the interface was really poor (version 0.5).So I decided to creat a new version. As You can see the background image is very similar to the variOS but I had to do a lot of work with Photoshop to adapt it to Reaktor. When in use, the interface it's really live and not just a background. In play mode all the step leds light up and in Write You get a lot of feedback from all the led indicators just like the real one. That's why the structure got really complicated.More or less it took me more than 2 weeks to finish it!!.
I think that one of the best features is the pattern switching with midi notes 36 to 41.In this way it's very easy to automate the bassline on any midi sequencer!

to Alex
1) You made a great sequence already!
2)The knobs had to be Reaktor ones because otherwise using Multi picture it would be very difficult. Also I think response to midi controllers would be affected.

to Toppa:
Everything you see on the screenshot is working. For Mode and pattern select just click and drag on them. The only knob not working is the tempo(try clicking on it!) because it's much easier to use Reaktor or the Host program tempo.
I'm open to any suggestion to improve it even more!

Ciao!

How about a pitch entry mode/option on the sequencer so we can click in a sequence very quickly without having to hit the "note" button each time.

Also I see an Accent knob is missing??

Otherwise, all is good. I am very happy indeed (as you can probably tell).

Thankyou very much Very Happy

I think about this! good idea

I have tried to put the accent knob where it was and move the dist knob but i think the setting of the default accent is very good and the dist knob is more useful!!

also if You switch to the B view on the instrument panel You will find a Help box!

I think you should put it on Smart's website too - it sounds like a good place to bounce and try out ideas like this - a sort of scratch pad before uploading the final version to the user library.

Yeah, I did wonder that myself. I suppose you could say that the GUI has been warez'd Laughing

Are GUI copyrighted? For example if you saw that someone 'borrowed' the knobs from Tau Pro could you/would you take legal action?

Also, are the UI's of the original hardware units copyrighted. Is there anything stopping anyone using a reproduced image of an original hardware unit (e.g. the TB-303 knobs)?

I'm not an expert in this area.I hope doing this kind of customization is not a legal problem. Also because there is not commercial use of it.But if it is and someone argue about it,I have not problem of taking it away from Reaktor user library.

As suggested by Alex,a new version of bassline is out with "Auto Step".
As soon as You hit NOTE,TIE,REST the step indicator will automatically select the next step.

did you totally take it down, or did you just replace it? 'cause I'm getting some weird error saying that it was done on Reaktor 3.39 and I need to upgrade, but I have R4?

3.39 is the 4.02 update.3.37 was the 4.01.005.It's because a lot of the underlying code was done for the stillborn R3.3 update.

I find that all user library ensembles crash with the new updates....just did a roll back and all is fine now. Guess I'll skip this version Sad

It's crazy isn't it? I had no problems at all with Reaktor 3.0. I can't even save some of my songs running 4.0 as a VST in Cubasis. I get an unknown error. Guess I'll also go back a version and update when the dust settles around this one. Glad i didn't buy it in this state though.

Anyway, looking at the NI forum I'm not alone so I'm not gonna harp on about Reaktor 4 crashing anymore. It was a free upgrade from 3 for me anyway Smile

Pinaxa,

Want me to have some new knobs made for you? That way you won't have to worry about getting into trouble, change the name & you should be fine. The auto step feature was a good thing to add.

Alex,

It'd be nice if your examples didn't use distortion, this has been the first indication of a cheap digital replica ever since Rebirth. It's not like the real one had a distortion knob, after all. Wink Nice one on the auto step suggestion.

Just to clarify: the VariOS GUI is legally (and, for that matter, morally) an artwork. Put it another way, people like BitPlant wouldn't have a business model if they couldn't copyright their UIs. Think pinaxa's done the right thing, but I hope he goes back and comes back with a infringement-free version.
