Looking for what they used to call 'Pang' or 'Sizzly' or 'Chinese Opera' or whatever type cymbals. They are simply not to be found in the 'downloadable' kits I have auditioned.
For anyone familiar with Jaco's 'Word Of Mouth' record, OR Chinese Opera, THAT'S the kind of cymbal I want. The pitch goes up or down based on how hard you hit it, resulting in a POOOOOIIIIIING kind of sound. Here's an example, if the above is not evocative enough: http://www.suntowermusic.com/pang1.mp3 OK: Where do ya get 'em? TIA, ---JC

This has to be the most unusual sample request I have heard.
Good luck | |

no help here but just observation - with those cymbals, only part of the sound seems to go up in pitch when you hit them harder, part of the "crash" seems to stay the same - would be hellishly hard to re-create in a sampler ...

Here you go... (this is where I got mine)
ftp://ftp.akaipro.co.jp/downloads/sound_libraries/S5000-S6000/VOL5/Eth nic/CHINESE_CYMBAL.zip The link doesn't seem to be working for me now but hopefully you will have better luck. |
