AuthorTopic: CUBE question

So far I have only played with the demo version and I have a question directed at the people who already own the full product. Can you select custom sources? On the presets it always says 'custom source', what exaxctly does that mean? Are the sounds you can achieve yourself limited due to the fact that there are only certain sources you can select?

I am hope I am making sense. Shocked Rolling Eyes

I think what they mean by 'custom' source is just one you have drawn or modified yourself, rather then the right click menu that selects a preset one. The presets are a good starting point but you are free to draw whatever sources you want.

So I take it that the edit button can indeed be of use? I will try out editing source A and only playing that in the demo version and see how crazy the cube will go. Thanks for answering, flametop.

Hi Fabi,
I am not quite sure how to answer your question, so I have forwarded this question to VirSyn for an answer. You should either get an answer here or in private.
Very Happy
Hope that helps!

Thanks, that's very kind of you. Embarassed
I guess I just don't know enough - hardly anything to be exact - about synthesis and especially additive synthesis. I still have to read up on what partials are, too. So I guess when I do that maybe the Cube will make more sense, too. Rolling Eyes

My favorite additive synthesizer is the Hammond Organ (-: (or Dirtbag, B-4, ZR-3, etc).

Seriously... each of the 9 drawbars is a harmonic.
16 - sub-fundamental
5-1/3 - sub-third
8 - fundamental (also 1/2 of sub, but anyway)
4 - second 8/2
2-2/3 - third 8/3
2 - fourth 8/4
1-3/5 - fifth 8/5
1-1/3 - sixth 8/6
(no 7th except on some models)
1 - eight 8/8

16, 8, 4, 2, and 1 are each one octave apart. They give the pure tone, and divide evenly into 8 - think an infinite series, each 1/2 as big as the previous one...

The 2-2/3, 1-3/5, and 1-1/3 and other odd divisions add "color" to the tone.

Recognizing this helped me grasp additive synthesis, since several newer synths feature additive - Cube, Ethereal, Vertigo, Rhino ... maybe think of them as Hammonds with an infinite set of drawbars (-:
