AuthorTopic: Anybody else having problems with Absynth 2?
loachm
Posted: 6th July 2003 06:32
I received my copy yesterday and it crashes while loading some of its factory presets - and I guess Native Instruments' support doesn't work on sundays (and it's Tour de France, too!) - so anybody else having this problem (but I fear it's buggy because it's the first release...)?

Absynth 2 ?
In my place it's still July 6th ( or so ... ) Upside Down
Yossarian
Posted: 6th July 2003 07:17
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. On the NI site it says that Absynth 2 will be available on July 11th. Where did you buy it loachm?

loachm
Posted: 6th July 2003 07:28
... I bought it along with other stuff at www.blackfield.de (software leasing - a fine thing!). I was also very surprised to see, that I got version 2...
by the way - these anounced 800 presets doesn't seem to be completely new patches since the creation date of some files isn't 2003 and some of them doesn't use the new granular or sample synthesis - but I don't mind this marketing trick - they're still very IMPRESSIVE!

Posted: 6th July 2003 07:30
There's only 128 NEW presets, the rest are the old ones. Even says that on their website.

loachm
Posted: 6th July 2003 13:24
... you shouldn't envy too much - I've downloaded loads of presets from the absynth yahoo group and half of them chrash the program when I load them. that's only half the fun and I hope NI can tell me tomorrow, what's wrong with it...
Nuisances Sonores
Posted: 6th July 2003 14:04
Less envious suddenly ... have you experienced crashes while tweaking too ? Confused
Summa
Posted: 6th July 2003 15:09
Are you certain it's 2.0? Maybe it's only 1.3.x with the option to freely upgrade it to 2.0. If it's 1.3.x try update to the latest version, what should solve most of your problems...
jendakub
Posted: 6th July 2003 15:17
I agree with Summa, what do you have in about menu?, I cannot to belive that somebody can have Absynth 2 before their officional release.

Some shops were a little naughty and sold Reaktor 4 a week or two
before its release date .
loachm
Posted: 6th July 2003 23:04
...definately 2.0 - I'll get my new glasses this week - but I can recognize this appearently new design - even if it's a bit blury Very Happy. After hours of trying, i got the great idea of changing the sound driver - I suppose there is something wrong with the ASIO drivers, because I can at least open a few more patches...

...tweaking is fine - the crashes happen only when I open certain patches - perhaps they are not certificated????

- Most software tend to be "released" a week or two before the release date, but it's seldom an official release.

a buggy release from ni ? no !!!! it can't be true ? i've never heard of anything so absurd. i mean, look at the rock solid stability of reaktor 4 and sessions - no bugs there. and all the happy kontakt users - they are always saying how good akai disk loading and direct-from-disk streaming is.

now you come here to say another ni product has bugs - well i'm shocked Surprised do you think that ni just throws these apps out the door fast to make as much money as possible, not caring about quality ? crazy !

Hmm...I find this a bit worrying, especially seeing as it is Brian Clevinger who does the coding for Absynth, and not NI.

Tell me, are you using the PC version of Absynth? Or the Mac version?

Thanks [...]!

He mentions Absynth crashing when loading presets, and I want to say
that I find this highly unlikely. I may have missed a few, but I've
loaded thousands of presets created with all version of Absy, back to
pre 1.0, Mac, PC and OSX and it has never crashed. This isn't a
problem that was reported during testing either. Just in case I just
ran through a few hundred from various sources (official NI, Absynth
Users, my own ancient stock), and nothing like that happened.

I'm not denying there is a problem either, maybe it's asio related or
something, but I'm skeptical that Absy would crash loading presets
old or new!

Cheers,
Brian

...O.K, boys & girls, just in order to stop this before it gets an irrational rumor or harms NI: their support has contacted me as a registered user to deal with this and I'll see what will happen. I had just asked yesterday, because this is the place where you can read the latest news about VSTis and I thought I might not be the only one to have this problem, but anyway - it's funny, how such things evolve - I might post a photo of my absynth's package, if someone could tell me, how this can be done...

Relax! Nobody blamed you for anything.

I guess NI will have a nice talk to this online shop though...

...yep, dr. wackler, I don't feel blamed at all, I just wanted to stop this thing before it gets as ridiculous as some other topics in this forum did - I wasn't aware of the official release date, if I was, it would have been clear to me, that this is not going to become a technical discussion.

Is there any set date for the release of Intakt?

EDIT: I just noticed that Sam Ash claims to be able to ship Intakt within 3-5 days. That's pretty good for unreleased software!
