AuthorTopic: Bubbler - bouncing ball synth
Concretefx

Hi there

Just for a bit of fun, I've create a monosynth which simulates a ball bouncing in a closed 2-d box to create bubbling sounds, it can be download here http://www.concretefx.com/Bubbler.zip

You can alter the size of the box , the angle the ball bounces at and how the position of the ball alters the pitch. Bubbles is very experimental, may not be in tune & altering the parameters to get interesting sounds is a bit hit and miss, but can make some strange sounds.

We have also updated our website, so if you see any mistakes there just send us an email at mail@concretefx.com and we will fix them

Cheers

Probably Monkey Chow. Yes, there is such a thing. It's often fed to parrots.

Anyways, the website's MUCH clearer and complete now. Good work. I'll play with the bouncing ball when I'm done work...

how about using this to process live audio via a buffer/user loadable samples wavetable+pitch styley.. awesome for tweaking due to the glide.

Looks good fun..

funny, I wrote a plug a month or two ago which simulates upto 4 balls bouncing on your audio.

I got the idea from a friend telling me about Oscar Peterson. Apparently he was a real practical joker. He would detune the bass players strings while he was off stage, then keep him talking while before they played - then go straight into a song before he got chance to find out something was wrong!

The bass player got revenge at a later gig by putting ball bearings on the strings of his piano. I just wondered what that would have sounded like. I'm sure it was nothing like my plug.

If anyone's interested I'll finish it off properly. Each ball has changeable size (affects length of sample), squidgyness (steel ball->soggy wet sponge ball)(affects number of replays of audio), height dropped (affects gap between replays), and LP/HP filter to alter how the audio is 'boinged'. Also each can be panned.

I guess it's kind of granularity gone wrong. All the parameters are automatable through VST.

Anyway, ta Jonathan!

Hi there

Sounds interesting Duncan, have you seen the Soundtoys website at http://www.soundtoys.net/a/indexa.html, this has a lot of interesting Flash sound making programs similar to your bouncing ball idea.

Anyway back to Bubbler, new version out, this version now has the ball bouncing in 4 dimensions, and there is a smooth parameter to get rid of some of the clicks in the sound. You can download it at http://www.concretefx.com/Bubbler.zip.

jon

thx for the soundtoys link - v interesting!

Love the idea of 4d - traditionally 4th dimension is time (and fifth dimension is a vocal group who like camping under the awning of aquarius...). So w should be kind of an angular echo.. but it sounds pretty cool!

everyone else who expressed an interest

OK, I'll finish it off!
