... although there is much room for improvements, like multi Midi Ins, improved SF2 export, multi columned plugin lists (when having many plugins), a prompt for saving the presets when closing it (did you ever made a complex setup in Chainer and then you closed it by accident? - then all your work is lost), a "recently" setup list and so on ....
Already 9 months ago I submitted all these improvements to the developer and he agreed to implement them, but nothing happend until today. All other users are satisfied with the present version of Chainer?

I've purchased it almost an year ago........and i'm using Bidule now....'cause to me multi midi in port is essential.....so i'm not happy at
all with Chainer current status....but anyway i use it to save/load patches in Logic 5.5.1 where the fxp format is not supported..... lalo

What do you mean by "nothing happened until today"? Did they get back to you with info about an update or other news?
| Alex@PA | Posted: 22nd July 2003 07:46 | |||
Yes, Chainer is a great product and has so much room for development. We were expecting to see some serious functionality being added. Is any one is contact with them about the what's to come in the future?
| AndreasE | Posted: 22nd July 2003 07:51 | |||
Yes, in an email the developer told me to make an update some time - that´s 9 months ago !
| AndreasE | Posted: 22nd July 2003 08:02 | |||
Yes, Bidule is a great standalone alternative to Chainer. Logic 5.5 doesn´t support fxp? I´m using Magix Midi Studio 2003 which is Logic 5.2 in fact and have no problems concerning loading fxb/fxp.

yea. i bought Chainer after trying it out
and love it but its should be about time for an update -k-
| lalo | Posted: 22nd July 2003 08:31 | |||
No, Logic 5.5.1 uses a propietary format called .pst and does'nt load/save in the fxp format unless the plug UI itself have some built-in patch management section......i use Chainer to save patches in i.e Crystal cause the .pst doesn't support plugs with more than 128 parameters..... what a shame!!!!....but logic will never be developed for PC.....arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..... lalo

lalo I will share with you a tip I learnt myself just fairly recently. Go to your Program Files\Emagic\Logic 5.5\Plug-In Settings folder and pick the appropriate folder for one of your VSTi plugins - drop any fxb/p files you want into it for that plugin. Now when you load that plugin up in Logic you will find all the presets and banks you have loaded in the drop down menu at the bottom of the plugin window (same as with your Logic instruments) works well for me on Logic 5.5.1 win2K also Crystal 2.3 has its own patch manager now so you could use that too without Chainer.

You´re totally right, aMUSEd.
| lalo | Posted: 22nd July 2003 09:58 | |||
thanx a lot guys!!!
i'll try it and let uknow!!!
| lalo | Posted: 22nd July 2003 10:08 | |||
Ok it works....but not in Crystal 'cause if i do a patch of my own then try to save it and then i reload it some parameter change...so i need to use Chainer again...

I would like to see an update
did anyone speak to the developer ? its been a long time coming.

Yes, Chainer's my main squeeze for recording from my scoring program. But I also wrote the developer about the possibility of adding some things and that was a long time ago. So I agree.

Now as there is also a standalone version of EnergyXT and because of the frequent updates EXT has a better value for money.
| Gymnopedies | Posted: 29th July 2003 08:48 | |||
I had emailed the developer about a year or so ago. He told me the big update was going to ver Chainer v.2 which among other things was going to include multi-channel audio output.

yeah, unless chainer and console devlopers pull some huge tricks out of a hat and improve the products, they are in for a hard time..energy xt is cheaper and can do more..there really is no point buying chainer as a new customer these days with energy xt available.... Console does support dx/dxi also though, so the extra price is more justified than chainer..although agin, if you work solely in vst, there's no point getting console either.. I mean, look at the support energy xt customers get?(that goes for any of jorgen's products) a thorough forum at webmassiva.com, and support here as well...Xlutop don't seem to give a dog poo about chainer anymore

I guess it depends. I own Chainer, EnergyXT, and Console. On my system, Chainer is the most stable of the three. For starting up and testing out an instrument or effect, Chainer is much faster and easier than the other two, by far -- no tedious wiring necessary, no need to insert and wire a mixer just to adjust wet/dry, etc.
The new 1.2 standalone version of EnergyXT doesn't work at all on my system. Console does have the big advantage of handling DX/DXi. But, it also doesn't work with some plugins that Chainer handles just fine. I end up using them all, depending on what works best in a given situation. James

Absofrigginlutely!! my workflow nearly as well as Chainer....not to denigrate Jorgen's work, it's just not my cup o' tea. Some folks also swear by Sonar and Project5 as opposed to SX and Reason...different strokes. I love Chainer, probably use it more than any other single app. No amount of bells and whistles added to any other app will change that fact.....I just wish Xlutop would'nt be so friggin' distant and mysterious....shades of Ichiro Toda!! Cheers.......CL

I agree about Chainer's interface. It's very simple to use. Beyond that:
1. Console is quite the CPU hog. I've got a dual XP 1900 system with a gig of ram and Console will occasionally spike up to about 50% cpu usage with a single plugin, whereas Chainer barely registers. I heard they are optimizing Console but I can't imagine it's going to be that much of an improvement. 2. I use Chainer to run my guitar through it. Does Energy XT have a way to run a signal through it? I tried the most recent demo and the only thing I can find is a MIDI Input and a "master" output. Where's the audio input? Am I missing something? I believe the main problem with XLUTOP may be feature creep. Adding DX/DXI plugin support is a pretty big step. They should finish up the other features (complete the midi automation and preset stuff, add midi ports, etc) and release an interim version until they can get DX working. Looking at Tracktion I've noticed that Jules releases a lot of minor revisions on a regular basis with major revisions going through beta testing. (I know--Jules is a machine Even so I'm still going to wait.

Is handling DXI's really all that valuable ? I can count on one hand the # of DXI's I have that don't have VSTI versions - and I used to use Sonar all the time till I got FLS. Once the novelty of being my first synth wore off, I wasn't all that impressed with Dreamstation. Livesynth works ok under Sonar but not in FLS, and I've never bothered with Cyclone. I haven't used any of the three in FLS in the last three months. Doug
