AuthorTopic: Crystal 2.4 rocks

Everytime I think Crystal may be gaining on the big guys I get involved a bit on other things and BOOM! there it is, Crystal 2.4 with samples and new patches.

Well done Glenn. I'm probably late to the release party but very cool. I would safely say that a completely free synth setup is now a reality and isn't that something we should all be happy about?

Five years ago did anyone think they'd own a synth as powerful as Crystal 2.4, let alone one that allowed for sample import. By today's software and hardware standards there are a bunch of people in the hardware world that would go nuts trying to get a synth to do what Crystal and the other usual suspects do.

So....thanks yet again for another surprising and delightful update. The best to you and yours!

Cheers for Glenn.

DOH!

if you guys want to please remove this thread as it's covered by a much bigger one already. Smile

why not just another simple praise thread? Smile

between Floridian thunderstorms (computer unplugged) and other interests, Crystal seems to keep evolving and improving faster than I can keep up with [currently catching up on chord progressions]

one could probably submit to Crystal any ole ditty or even the soundtrack to some TV episode and come up with some fresh and engaging track Smile

it does make me think that more people should just sit home and make their own music to play in the house or share with their friends, rather than buying all the records that the Village PA system instructs them to buy Idea

Cool

Dear Abbey;

What's so great about crystal? I tried it a few times and didn't think much of it...

Until last night... I gave it a good whirl and damn if it doesn't sound fantastic! Seriously, with some small tweaks to some of the patches available on the crystal website, I was able to produce some really cool sounding stuff. Most of my songs are just me and a guitar, so I'm not really into the electronica or whatever scene. But, man, I had a blast with it last night.

So, my question is: For those of you that have a non-music day job, when do you get a chance to sleep? I couldn't put it down last night!

Sincerely,

Tired at work

Well said, bobaudio, exhaustion is required for this stuff. I have to say I was a little surprised by your post. I'm a guitar player, and though I've been around synths for a long time, I still consider myself still a novice. But when I download Crystal v.whatever last year and checked out the presets I whipped out my acoustic and wrote a song using the Potomic Toms preset and recorded it immediately in Sonar. And the ambient pads in the presets started sending me off in a hundred different directions...

I love a lot of freebies, but I don't really do "electronica" and don't really use any of them often except the Crystal and Cheese Machine (guilty pleasure). I admit the Crystal isn't simple, but it it logical and I submit that for a guitar player who works alone, as I do, the Crystal presets are an encyclopedia of inspiration for me.

To a much lesser extent I use the (now apparently orphaned) Ganymed once I've got some basic chord structure going on guitar. Anyway, just thought I'd chip in...
