AuthorTopic: Audio from graphic files...

There was a link in here somewhere to a program that I can't find. It analyzes graphic files and creates audio from them.. so something like that.. and no, I'm not talking about just opening them up in RAW mode. This program did something specific it seemed.

Anyway, I can't find the link.. does anyone know what I'm talking about? or am I crazy? Laughing

nope.. that ain't it. It was for the PC... and it wasn't PD. It was a stand-alone application.

Oh yeah, and 1 vote for me being crazy... make that 2 when including myself. Laughing

Coagula perhaps?

Coagula! that's it! Thank you! Very Happy

Positronic's find is pretty interesting too... any more links to experimental software like these two? I've got the algorhithmic midi stuff which I'm not terribly into.. I'm really much more interested in experimental sound processing type stuff tho.. like the links above.

Anyone else?

Hi there

Slightly offtopic, but the reverse is finding images in music. The Aphex Twin in Windowlicker has a picture of Mr James himself.

More information about this and other images in music at http://www.tp.spt.fi/~cleth/projects/aphexface

Cheers

Yep, I've been using Bitmaps & Waves and Soundwarp for a while now too...excellent for creating long, evolving unpredictable soundscapes (and I've also found that certain porn images can create amazing soundscapes! Very Happy )

also
a very good and free one is
COAGULA.
http://hem.passagen.se/rasmuse/Coagula.htm

Coagula is an image synth. This means that it is both a program for creating and manipulating images, and a program for generating sound from those images.
You can use Coagula to generate rich and complex synth sounds. There are special drawing tools to help you create the pictures. Some features are not so common in other image editors.
Lots of stuff that would be really useful is also missing. The program is still under development.

System requirements: You need Windows 95 or later.
A monitor which can show thousands of colors is highly recommended.

Mostly used it on-the-fly for sample mangling (granular and wavtables oscillators through delays) but I managed to screw up and accidently delete the fruits of that particular line of thought so I have to rebuild. But there are plans... there are definitely plans...

Really? I consider it the 'third' recent SF masterpieces, along with Neuromancer and Snow Crash.

I have everything up to Nymphomation signed-and-doodled by him. In fact Pollen was signed twice...
