AuthorTopic: Best Sampler, Simple and solid!

Now, Im not a big guy into loops and such. This is not intended to be a compositon tool, but an engineering tool. All I need is simple sample playing. Not many extra features necassary. I did a little ditty myself, but I couldnt get it to open all wav formats properly. Just midi->plugin->sound is all I need. Anything else would be a bonus, but keep in mind I work almost entirely with acoustic sounds (not electronica). This will be used for triggering, vocal harmonies and various other things where a specific sound needs to be played at a variable time etc.. that would be easier to do via midi than sequencing.

Cyber is quite a nice little sampler, does all the requisite things and its free. Very Happy

on a freebie tip theres also helios2 from tobybear

otherwise youre pretty much into the big boys [kontakt / halion2] which would be overkill

the only mid-price sampler is really vsampler but even that might be too much for what you want

there seems to be a gap in the market here

What about Jeskola XS1 or Dyad DXi (if you have a DXi host)? Both solid, simple (compared to V Sampler) and relatively cheap mid range samplers. A recent test showed they have sound engines that are better than the bigger samplers in some respects.

Just look them up in the Instruments link.

For just "play this sample here" simplicity, you might want to check out Loopazoid. Want a serious sampler? Get Kontakt. Smile

Another low price alternative is DS404. Quite good VFM.

I do believe that energyXT has a simple sound-playback module (called Audio Part), but honestly S9, what does this have to do with FX? Smile

I posted this in FX?

D'oh!

I meant to put it in instruments. That's what I get for posting at 1am. If someone wants to move it... that'd be nice Wink

Well, I don't know what I'm doing in here today anyway. My email and web server (transitioning to) are all screwed up, and something I've installed lately has done a major trash job on my audio stuff, too. KVR is the only thing I can pull in...which is dangerous. Laughing

I should quit while I'm ahead and get out of here. I should knuckle under and do my backup/restore number. I should listen to my new Saint-Saens CD.

But, back on the subject, yeah, XS-1! That's the one I'd go for...I use it all the time. It got very much easier to use with R6.

Yep, this is the one I was gonna recommend too. Smile
3S is a very lightweight (in terms of CPU usage) and simple....I like using it for those times when I just need to whip a quick sample into a track without any kind of frills at all (example: when I might want to use a specific sound as a click-track in SONAR).
