Hi
I have just bought a 1Ghz iMac, and have Logic 6 - I've been looking to buy a soft-synth to run with my setup. I was getting really interested in Reaktor Session....until I read some stuff on NI's forum about the AU problems...I presume the same thing applies to Absynth ? Can anyone recommend anything that DOES actually work in AU format....or am I better off just going with OS X VST's and using the VST/Audio-Unit wrapper (if this is the case, would Reaktor Session be a good bet ?) Thank you - any advice would be appreciated!

hi there,
did you take a look here already? http://www.audio-units.com/home/instruments.html ..and did you try the ES2 demo? I didnīt switch to OSX yet but Iīm shure ES2 runs very well and itīs a very good sounding, complex synth, imo.. hope this helps!

Synths that work well in AU (not full time in X myself, but what I've heard)
Spectrasonics Atmosphere, Stylus and Trilogy Phatmatik Pro Virsyn Cube Virsyn Tera Arturia Moog Modular Urs Heckman's synths - http://www.u-he.com Reason as a rewire slave - really nice actually! and I highly recommend the ES2 and ES1 as bread and butter synths - the emagic synth collection might be something to look into hope that helps! Crystal. As I understand, it was one of the first AU format VSTI's (is that an oxymoron?) and it's free. I just did a quick look, by the numbers alone, there's 61 AU and 120 OSX VSTI. V-Station's available as AU. Looks like GForce (Imposcar, Oddity) are AU, and Virsyn (Cube, Tera) and Arturia Moog Modular V. As for NI... well, have they ever gotten stuff right the first time? (Actually, 1.0 of the B-4 was pretty good, 1.1 added features mostly)... You'd need adapter for Steinberg, Waldorf, and Linplug (including Albino), and PlugSound. Disclaimer: But what do I know, I'm a PC user ... but I have some friends that use Mac's. Doug

I'll throw my vote behind Moritz's: try ES2. Then buy the Synth Collection: ES2, ES1 & Evoc20 for barely more than just ES2. The VST-AU wrapper works, but is a bit annoying. Preset loading is definite pain in the behind. V.

Thanks for all the replies - I might take your suggestion and try ES2 - I have had a quick play with ESP and ESE under OS9, and liked the way they sounded (i'm very impressed with the sound out of Logic anyway!). I might try a demo of Tera or Cube too. Thanks again!

Pretty much every OS X VSTi works perfectly with the VST-AU wrapper - in the latest beta, even the AAS and NI stuff works.

Apologies if this is being dumb, but how do I install an Audio Unit into Logic ? It seems to recognise ES1, RVP73 & EXSP24 ok, but I can't figure out how to get ReaktorSessionOne and Crystal in there ? Thanks

pete -
Have a look for a folder called "components" - youīll find 2 of them. one in: system/library/audio/plugins/components one in: username/library/audio/plugins/components it doesnt matter where you put your AUīs, both places will work. (but its better to put them all into one of those 2 folders) cheers putte
