hey folks,
didn`t really know what board to post this on so i stuck it here since its sample related i`m looking for samples of people talking through radios, you know, like people in fighter jets (pilots i think they`re called) or astronauts speaking irrelevant garbage (to you and me anyway) to each other etc etc. I`ve looked on the net but have came up more or less empty. I know its a bit obscure but if any of you know where i could find ANY samples like this please let me know. Infact, if you know of any "spoken word" samples out there i`d like to know. thanx in advance

You can do it yourself. Sample yourself talking and the EQ the hell out of it and downsample. There are EQs that have presets for "telephone" and "radio" that would work perfectly.
As for samples, just rent a movie like Top Gun and sample away. Talk to me, Goose!

I found this. It has samples from A LOT of movies. Maybe you'll find something useful there.

lol, top gun.
I`d have to go to the rental place in disguise, i`d lose alot of rep if i was seen renting that i know what u mean with the EQ thing but problem is i`ve got no way of recording to my PC atm (i know i know) due to me destroying my mic in a counterstrike induced fit of rage.

I think pough had the best suggestion as far as making your own samples. I was looking for some samples like this a while back but after I didnt find anything decent, I went and made my own...used some ill EQ settings and viola...

To be more specific, roll off your high and low frequencies, giving you a very narrow band of audio coming through.

Y'know I never saw it when it first came out, but I remember everyone loving it. I finally saw (most of) it a few years back and I was truly in awe of just how terrible a movie it is.
Way to go. Why not get samples of things and run them through an EQ to make them sound like they're being said over a radio and to make them hard to understand. That way you can take things way out of context without people knowing, and reward them for paying attention and noticing that the supposed NASA pilot is saying things like "I know you can hear what I'm thinking, boy. Meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow..."

Let's be a little fair here. This did come out in 1986. It was so cool! Then again, I was 12 at the time too! Big planes that go zoom are kewl!!!! Devon

Nah. Just rent it together with Hot Shots and say it's for a study in spoof movies.

You might want to look for sound effects CDs in your local library.

even more of the same..
cut yer own - telephones are about 300Hz to 3k.. downsampling for digital mediums, but also might help with general degradation of signal - when people use walkies on a construction site, and the way a lot of people use cellphones - they talk into the mic 10x louder than they need to, invariably producing a massive amount of clipping by stressing the physical tolerances of the mic and the circuitry.. massive distortion/clipping will get you the characteristics i believe you're looking for. it's not as fun as using plugins :p but if you've got two telephones in your house, just record off one, speak into the other, and speak into it loudly! (unless you've got a really cheap piezo/'electret' mic somehwere.. use that..)

afaik, the Apollo11 moon landing recordings are all copyright free. This is probably an excellent place to start if you want astronauts 'speaking irrelevant garbage' (I bet they didn't think it was irrelevant R

Another tip is to add very short white noise after the phrase.

Our local cinema shows a classic movie every Wednesday night...I was lucky enough to see Top Gun on the big screen a few months back...

ah this is an easy one
go to the nasa website.. they have reams upon reams of recordings of astronauts and experimental/test pilots.. |
