tell me pals what is the VSTi software, that is quite known and you hate it the most.

to clarify - we are not talking about some crappo synthedit stuff, but some quite major stuff.

please, give two hate votes and explanations why. hope, this topic will be a glad resource to learn downsides of a popular software.

my votes come to

1) Dreamstation DXi
2) linplug albino

dreamstation is something like a poop sine synth that aliases like a hell. totally unusable.

i had my eyes popping and head bumming after trying albino demo. noise makes me feel sick, they could have chosen a short beep or other kind of protection.

I can't stand Dreamstation either. Why do Fruity Loops and Sonar insist on bundling it? Ack.

1. Oddity

- people tell me this sound like the real thing. If that's true, I'm shocked how such am awful sounding product could get such a following.

2. Triangle II

- c'mon, the sound in this one doesn't live up to half the hype around it...I've given it several tries, but still haven't really found anything I could use in my own productions, and very few sounds that I actually felt sounded good in the first place...

Here he is - the trance guy slaying Oddity! Shocked

Yes...I listen to/produce trance, the most hated form of music on earth, still the greatest music form ever...

I find it funny how music snobs react when you tell them you listen to trance music...trance is only for 15 year olds who listens to Lasgo or Ian Van Dahl, right? ...well, dear sir, my musical background includes playing cello for 9 years, guitarrs for 5 years, and at the age of 20, having contacts with the most respected trance DJ's in the world, together with some of the biggest techno/house jocks as well, still, people at this forum suggets that I know nothing about music and synths just beacuase I listen to trance music...a genre that's been down in the dirt for way too long time...it's funny, when you read a magazine like Muzik, they hype artists like 50 Cent and The Streets in the same sentence as they put all trance of as cheese music...that says it all really.

Or actually, no, I think you just another one of the "elite" users on this forum that can do whatever you want and get away with it...I actually wish I didn't have to say those things, as some people like yourself can't take those things without getting jealous/offended, but no, I'll continue to defend trance music from close minded people still living in the 80's...like it or not

Have you noticed in the Bosch painting
in the top left hand corner
someone's playing a Novation Remote 25
attached to what looks like a Mac?
Could this be telling them something? Confused Razz
Still, the devil plays the best tunes... Very Happy

Bosch was a big fan of synths and used to put a lot of them in his paintings. For instance, in The Garden of Earthly Delights, if you look closely at the guy who's getting boiling oil poured down his throat, you can see he's sitting on a PolySix (some have dismissed this as a mere shadow). And in Death and the Miser, you can see the corner of a 303 (with Devilfish mod) poking out of Death's pocket. It's really just a speck of white/silver, but you can tell it's a 303. And in the Prodigal Sun? There's a Moog Modular under the haystack.

Bosh wasn't into VSTi's, though. He was old school.

The thing about Oddity is IT ACTUALLY SOUNDS LIKE AN ANALOG SYNTH, not the detuned chorus-y virtual analog V-Station stuff that everyone seems to think an analog synth should sound like nowadays. Actually the Rolands with their built-in chorus (esp. June 106) probably had a lot to do with that as well . . . Doesn't surprise me that trance fans aren't lining up to buy Oddity, 'cos that ain't what it is. These are the same folks who don't care for the Moog Modular. Smile Different strokes for different folks.

Funny how tastes differ--someone hates the Triangle II, but I love the thing--it's perfect for warm, fat sub-basses that rattle anything not tied down.

Yupp, you're right about that, to me, the Oddity sounds way to "lo-fi" and harsh to be for any real use in my productions (funny thing is that I've produced a lore more techno-oriented stuff than trance music this far), it just doesn't sound any good to me. However, it certainly have more than enough charatcher....And you're right about the Juno 106, I like it, and thinks it's a great fun to play around with it...I'll probably buy one this fall...(not to use in my trance productions tho Wink)..

Triangle II..the problem with this one is once again the way it sound...you say it's warm...to me, it have a very metallic edge, and not enough charatcher to be for any real use....But yeah, it all comes down to different opinions in the end

The 106 is a very cool synth. Smile Not very punchy, but good smooth leads, pads, etc., cool filters, and it was pretty good about staying in tune (and simple enough to manipulate easily). I think it was the Jupiter 8 (I could be wrong--it might have been the little Moog) that used to drift out of tune and drive me absolutely nuts. My old band had tons of those modern (affordable) analog beauties, including a Matrix 6 that was a bitch to program (no knobs if I remember right) but sounded really nice.

I've grown to hate NI synths, their just too expensive and over hyped for what you get. My main gripes are Pro53 (I know some people still like this one, so no hard feelings) FM7 and Battery..

NI synths don't sound solid, they sound like they produce a click every second note no matter how well you adjust the envelopes.. Shocked

Phew, feel much better now, thank you. Now I wait for NI fans to start bashing my comments. Very Happy Anyway this is what this thread is about just telling which known synth you hate the most... I don't understand how some people take this too seriously and try to defend their own favourite product like it would change someones opinion.. Wink
