AuthorTopic: external controlof Midi-CC on VSTs

Hi there, I´m new here. My Question to you has to do with vic_france's replay on a midi-control-vst-topic.
If you´re there or anybody else who knows the location of that side mentioned, done by "Ben", please, please tell me. I´m searching the hole web and any forum now to learn the CC-Numbers of the vsts.
I wonder that´s so rare, that people want to control their VSTIs with an external midi-controller. I´m using SX and Phatboy and tried to build a generic remote, which doesn´t work. The learn function does not seem to work, or I´m to stupid. Now I´d like to use the transformer as midi-plug to change the CC-numbers of Phatboy (1-13) to the CC-numbers used in the VSTs. But try 128 CCs all the time?! I hoped they would show up when I start the automation, but you can´t see the CC-numbers there.
PLEASE HELP!

I´m sorry I got no replays to my topic. The funny thing is, I posted this quetion in 4 or forums. Some people read, but no one replays.
Nobody knows anything?

well I'm not sure if I understand well your question, but what I can say is that not all VSTi have midi CCs even if it is possible to automate VSTi's parameters (like Synth1).
There is some hosts (like Renoise) that have a "remote mapper" which allows to control VSTi's parameters with a midi controller, even if the VSTi doesn't have midi CCs. Is is what you're looking for ?

Hi there,

I use midi control all the time... I really don't like touching the mouse while playing. I've got an Evolution MK-249C as the controller.

Unfortunately, Cubase is not very helpful with MIDI control. There are VST hosts that map the MIDI CC's of synth for you, and even allow "learning". Check Muzys, for example. It even maps Synth1 Smile The "Generic Control" thing you mentioned is meant to allow control over the Cubase mixer with an external midi controller.... but it's a bit clumsy.

I'm lucky, because my favourite synths (Crystal, Triangle II and FreeAlpha) have MIDI learn built in them. Big thanks to the devs for thinking about this aspect, because it makes them a real pleasure to play!

If you wish to control a synth with no MIDI learn, you have to find out the CC's it responds to, if there are any. (not all VSTi's have) Usually this info comes with the synth, in the manual or in a separate text file. Then it's just a matter of configuring your Phatboy's knob according to the MIDI CC map. There must be an easy way to change the CC value a selected Phatboy knob is sending? On the Evolution, I just select a knob, press two buttons and dial in the number.

I believe the Phatboy is even able to save MIDI CC templates... meaning that you could build a mapping for your most used synths and just toggle between them?

If you need a MIDI CC map for specific synth, try checking the files that came with the *.dll, the developer's site and you can also ask here- maybe someone has them.

ew .... why do you need to automate ALL the commands? by using transformer you can remap 8 midi ccs, i guess that should be enough to map pitch, cutoff, resonance, volume, filter type and another 3-4 commands you would need. i tried it at my friend's home studio (cubase sx and evolution 361c controller) and it works fine. that is just a preparation until i get my own evolution Very Happy

Thank you all for your replays. First i thought there are no living creatures in the forum...
But now I learned what I thought recently what it's all about.
To Pakana: The Transformer is an editor in Cubase (like in Logic the... I´m not sure now, isn´t it Transformer also, or logical editor?)
It´s not a VST. In Cubase you can use it as an Insert-"effect" in midi-tracks.
You can´t edit the CC-numbers in Phatboy. There are only 3 modes. With an eprom-update 3 additional modes, I think.
Recently I learned that Pentagon has I learn-mode. Makes me very happy! Did´t read the manual to properly...
