3 weeks ago, I decided I needed a new car. 2nd hand, but, well, new and exciting to me at least.
After seeing adverts all over the net, I took the bait and went down to 'Wheel City', I was immediately shocked to find - NO cars!!!! Advertising all over the shop front, and likewise in all the local newspapers, but, NO cars at Wheel city. Just as I was turning back, I was lured into the office to sign up. "Cars soon, honest sir". Said the guy. Hmmm ...ok, I'm as daft as I look, I'll sign up. 3 weeks later, and guess what? STILL no cars. Plenty of related documents, plenty of spiel, plenty of, well, 'other stuff', but NO cars. I'm losing interest rapidly. The moral of this tale is either * Lay the foundations, BEFORE you start decorating your house or * Shit, or get off the pot Now, I need somwhere new to get some patches from. Any ideas anyone? Hmmmm ....

I understand how people can get frustrated. That being said, the Patch Arena people are trying to create an area where users can exchange patches FOR FREE and I hope they aren't discouraged by people who are audacious enough to complain about the order in which they do things.
| soma | Posted: 15th September 2003 15:31 | |||
I'm sorry maybe I missed something... what's wrong with the patch section here. Seems like they are well past teh foundation phase and into the decorating.
| Manc Chris | Posted: 15th September 2003 15:56 | |||
OK, guess I was being TOO cryptic.
Patch area here is fantastic. Just like the board. Superb. However, PatchArena, have been decorating the house for weeks now. But seem to have forgotten about the foundations. you see? I want a new car. NOT a load of waffle about it. And I certainly don't want to have to re-register everytime they nip out for a new can of paint. Grrr.

Sorry but i do have to agree with cawright1 here.
Perhaps it would have been a better idea to get the patches in line and then open the site. You have the sponsors set up (though i can not see the ads anymore) you got some nice headlines of releases, but the one thing you do not have presently is the part of your sites name which is the most important part --- patches. I'm not knocking ya guys, i think it is a good idea, just not too sure of your execution of it all. Regardless, some patches soon heading your way. Hope to actually see them on site *one day*

Massive respect to the patch arena guys for building the site which will be a great resource once it's done. However, it is a bit odd that they haven't got around to the bit which everyone visiting the site wants. Patches please?
| Manc Chris | Posted: 16th September 2003 01:49 | |||
Kryos. Nicely articulated there dude. keep it up but PLEASE don't tell me you are part of the Patch Arena team? Surely NOT???????

Have any of the folk here bitching actually contributed any patches yet?

Contributing? You what?? I thought I deserve (no actually I expect) everything for free with no effort on my part whatsoever and I want to be spoonfed everything in bitesize chunks. Contribute my arse, what is this? some kind of community where people help each other or something? What are you on Mr Rabbyt Oh and I also want a plug in that wipes my arse for me. For free. With no effort on my part.

Totally missed the point there really.
As they have been asking for patches for months now, then they must have thousands of the things. Maybe they are all busy writing tunes with the patches themselves, before letting us have a go? Maybe it's all a scam, and after they have blagged all our patches, they are gonna shut the site down and stick em on a commercial CD release "Patch Arena V1" ? Who knows ......

cawright1 quoth Totally missed the point there really.
No I dont think so. I think the point is that they have had a clear timetable, laid out since they started, and they're sticking to it. You're bitching about that timetable instead of doing anything constructive. As they have been asking for patches for months now, then they must have thousands of the things. How do you know that? Maybe there are more people lbitching than there are contributing. Maybe they are all busy writing tunes with the patches themselves, before letting us have a go? Maybe it's all a scam, and after they have blagged all our patches, they are gonna shut the site down and stick em on a commercial CD release "Patch Arena V1" ? Maybe there are too many tiresome jerks turning up at KVR, and a jihad armed with clawhammers isnt such a bad idea. Who knows ...... Yeah, they're certainly fooling us all, what with the big effort to set up a forum, and an access system that cant be spidered and a good competition and all that. You're right. Something smells bad here. Oh yeah. It was you.
| vurt | Posted: 16th September 2003 03:44 | |||
or maybe theyre busy sortin out the thousands of patches into some sort of worthwhile databanks,you know corresponding instruments and such give em time and as for the advertisin before they were set up i believe this was so people would not only be waiting to d/l patches but to get those who want to to send theirs in(no cypher its not compulsory to be nice and i for one do not need a new car as im not allowed to drive
| CypherOne | Posted: 16th September 2003 04:24 | |||

I was toying with the idea of a career change. I was thinking about hiding under a bridge and charging people to cross it.

"Except in Edinburgh. In Edinburgh no-one has a Scottish accent."
Clearly someone who has never been to Nidrie or Pilton - still I cant blame you But edinburgh village - that scenic tourist trap where they put the cobbles back on some streets to make them look more rustic - is as scottish as ibiza is spanish PS I hate the festival - means you cant get to the bar

www.PatchArena.com
looks way cool now to me. Alex and his other half have been putting the site together and after consulting with the then current users decided to redesign the website – for the better. They have patch designers working up a few treats plus they have absolute a ton of presets to categorise - correctly. It should be a know fact that the foundations on which you build is stable if you expect it to last. Not only that they got this competition running too. Personally I think they are going about things in the right way, slowly but surely. Regards, Spe3d
| Manc Chris | Posted: 17th September 2003 02:11 | |||
Er ...why has the mirth factor suddenly shot throught the roof here then?
Replacing 'Mac' with 'Patch' ... is just too bloody obvious. Besides that, there is no victim. You see,class comedy ALWAYS needs a victim. Anyway, note that PatchArena still ain't got their asses in gear yet,!! I'm still down on the PatchArena commercial release theory.
| Spe3D | Posted: 17th September 2003 02:20 | |||

cawritgh1 quoth Er ...why has the mirth factor suddenly shot throught the roof here then?
Because it was more amusing than pointless bitching? Replacing 'Mac' with 'Patch' ... is just too bloody obvious. As opposed to the comedy delight that was 'replacing Patch with cynic' ? Besides that, there is no victim. You see,class comedy ALWAYS needs a victim. I nominate cawright1 as victim. Anyway, note that PatchArena still ain't got their asses in gear yet,!! Too true. That complete redesign doesnt count for nothing. And after all its been a whole day since you complained that they're still sticking to theire 2 month timetable. You'd have thought they would have got it all sorted by now, just for you. I'm still down on the PatchArena commercial release theory. Im still down on the 'cawright1 cant actually make patches himself so he's bitching cos he cant trawl the site yet' theory.

Mr Rabbyt ...you are too easily pleased.
As for "cawright cannot make patches himself, hence the bitching". Man, Lt Columbo has got nothing on you dude. Totally correct, yet totally beside the point. You see, I cannot make cars either. And when I roll up at Carworld, enticed by their literal moniker, and fancy advertising, I expect them to have cars. Not have one of their reps telling me that I cannot make cars myself. You see? Now, let me bitch in peace eh?
| CypherOne | Posted: 17th September 2003 03:01 | |||
Isn't that a bit like taking the bait?
| whyterabbyt | Posted: 17th September 2003 03:07 | |||
Mr Rabbyt ...you are too easily pleased.
I been looking at the sky and trees and planes y'see. Man, Lt Columbo has got nothing on you dude. Totally correct, yet totally beside the point. Hmmm. Id hazard that you cannot set up a major database-driven website with forums et.c. either. You see, I cannot make cars either. And when I roll up at Carworld, enticed by their literal moniker, and fancy advertising, I expect them to have cars. Do you turn up at the construction site of a new 'Carworld' bitching that the models they said would roll off the production lines in two months arent sitting on the forecourt? Not have one of their reps telling me that I cannot make cars myself. Firstly, Im not involved with Patch Arena. Secondly, one of the reasons they've probably slated that opening for two motths down the line is because there are too many people like you out there who just want to greedily snarf the goodies without contributing anything, and not enough to actually make them. You'd pay for a car, I presume? But you'll bitch about not getting your freebies fast enough. You see? Oh, I do indeed. Now, let me bitch in peace eh? Nope.

Not really; he's complaining because they're not available right goddamned now, despite the fact that its been made quite clear on the site (since the beginning) that they wont be available on the site for another two months.
He's also implictly accusing Alex et al of running a scam in order to get patches off people and sell them commercially.
| whyterabbyt | Posted: 17th September 2003 03:23 | |||
Oh yeah, and he's not wanting to actually contribute his own patches or anything constructive. Just bitch now, and grab anything and everything he can when it comes up.

Yes Mr Putte ...... I agree, let's get back to the point.
Someone's looking for an argument today, and it aint me. Life is good. I watched my lovely team slam 5 past the Greeks at Old Trafford last nite. Putte ..... You coming to OT for the return match? If so, lemee know. Mebee meet up for a beer in Manc.
As for the group, well, it looks like we will cruise through, Rangers will scrape through, (and will probably win one of the 'Battle of Britain' matches simply because playing us will be their personal Euro cup final) Stuttgart and the Greeks to be the whipping boys. (Soz Putte) However, can I make a plea ... just for this year, can all you MUFC haters turn to another target. Chelski. Arrgghh. If they win the bloody thing, then it paves the way for Football to become Billionaires latest playthings. They will all be having bets along lines of "Hey, I bet you my Yacht that I can buy Rushden&Diamonds and make them Euro champs in a year?" Nooooo.
