AuthorTopic: anyone know a plugin sampler that reads Akai floppies ?

I know you can import Akai sample CD's into most plugin samplers, but since I've never owned a CD-RW for my any of my Akai samplers and have a HUGE collection of samples on floppy, I was wondering if there is a way of importing my extensive collection of Akai formatted floppies, especially the multi disk sets ?

If not, maybe it's a feature worth considering for all you plugin developers in the future, as I'm sure there are thousands of other studios across the globe with boxes of Akai floppies sitting collecting dust.

browse for cdxtract (last version is 4.1.3), i think it can convert akai files to other formats (individual samples, soudfont, kontakt, exs .....)

If you're on a mac I think DsoundPro will do it.

Down at the bottom there is a program for accessing AKAI disks.
It is DOS based though so no NT/XP/2000 i'm afraid.

thanks for the responses...

h.vox, does CDxtract retrieve data from floppies too ? [ multi disk sets are most important to me ] ...If so it's name is a little misleading, don't you think ? I'll check it out though.

deejaydust, I tried that, I managed to retrieve some single disk samples, but most of my Akai floppies are on multi disk sets, it does the first disk and that's it, it doesn't even ask for the second disk !!! If you know a way, a small tutorial would be a major help Wink

jupiter8, I checked the specs it doesn't appear to do multi floppy disk sets either, unless you know a way ???

so, unless any of you have managed to get your Akai multi floppy disk sets back using one of these programs, or even know another way, please, PLEASE let me know !!!

:::OR:::

If you are a programmer and want to make a stack of cash on a unique product, build an Akai converter, and make sure it does multi floppy sets !

Have'nt got a clue. I've never used the program.
I just remebered there were a program at Chicken System that could possibly do what you asked for.

surely there must be something out there that reads Akai multi floppy sets ?

funny how PC's can perform all these amazing tasks, yet they can't do the simple ones you'd expect of them !
