AuthorTopic: *** 4Front VSTi Modules are available for Mac OSX (Mach-O)
gyohng

4Front modules are now available for Mac, and will be announced next week.

Plugin format is VSTi Mach-O, which means plugins run OSX and hosts that support Mach-O bundle format.

Home page for the modules:
http://www.yohng.com/

Mac OSX download links:
http://66.98.128.71/~yohngco/vsti/4FrontBassModule.pkg.sit
http://66.98.128.71/~yohngco/vsti/4FrontPianoModule.pkg.sit
http://66.98.128.71/~yohngco/vsti/4FrontEPianoModule.pkg.sit

All feedback is welcome.

Thanks,
George.

Yes, OSX only. Mach-o VST (newer format, some hosts may not support it yet)

You have so much to say! Why stop after just three wonderful, insightful lines?

Rich is just pranking I suppose Smile

But indeed, my stats show very little download. Probably little OSXers read this thread.

I wonder how many are actually doing music on OSX... haven't many stuck with OS9 for music?

Sad

I'd really love to try your plugs, but my VSTi host (Cubase 5.1) is OS9-compatible only.

dear Mr/Ms (?) Yohng,

I would just like to take the time out to say that I think your plugs are great and you should keep doing what you're doing. But forget about those Mac people, they don't know what's good for them. Confused

When it comes to developers, it's Mr in 98% cases

Add one. I downloaded your plugs this morning, right before I spotted this thread.

Someone posted a piece of music with your piano and I thought it sounded great, so I googled for "4front", expecting them to be WinTel only. My first thought was "why don't these osx plugs get mentioned more?". Hee.

And another in the X camp, thanks for taking the time to port them.

I have asked David Viens if he thinks I should do OSX native or carbonized.

<Yohng> do you think it's reasonable to make mach-o, or I should go with carbonized?
<plgWerk> macho, pure gcc
<plgWerk> native
<plgWerk> let the _last remaning_ host evolve
<plgWerk> i think only msp doest do them, even Live osx does them now

That was _before_ I started porting. To say truly, I don't like neither old nor the new VST concept on Mac. The old one is specific to Mac HFS and supposed to have resource data in a hidden filesystem part. The other one shines with N-files directory (so-called bundle), while such kind of a plugin logically would consist of a single file.
