Apologies if this has already been discussed, but does anyone here have BFD? how does it compare to groove agent.

From reading about them, hearing about them, listening to the demos, and knowing Angus, I'm postive BFD is the better of the two.

In case you didn't know, you have the change to win it in a competition we're running on sectionz.com.

Check it out [ here ]

S_A_P: I hope you didn't buy groove agent, not because BFD is better (it of course is) but because the thing abso-friggin-lutely sucks a big pile of smelly ass.

i don't know how steinbitch had the balls to put something like that out, unless i'm missing the really big kareoke wave just about to hit our shores...

anyway BFD smokes that steinborg shit under the table.

i dont think GA even has more than 1 velocity layer...dont bother correcting me if it does (it wont make a difference)

no apologies to any GA buyers you should have demoed before... make this a lesson and never do something like this ever again.

p.s yes i have actually used BFD

you may aswell look at the url posted for a summary cos it shows you pretty much everything you need to know.

Frankly, I'm currently using Kontakt with the bundled drum kit and I think that's better than Groove Agent.

I'm planning to get BFD. Unfortunately, the day I bought my DVD drive (with which to read it) my hard drive died, so I'm going to sort my computer out first...

I've gone on at length about what I don't like about Groove Agent before, but a summary is that I think it's an eJay product masquerading as a serious plug-in.

I'm also keeping an eye to Toontrack Drumkit From Hell II. http://www.toontrack.com/dfh2.shtml . I don't know anything about BFD or DA. Maybe it's time to listen to some demos Very Happy...

OK I see that BFD is the way to go- frankly I was sold when I saw the 1967 ludwig maple kit

BFD and Groove Agent are two very different instruments, so the comparison is misleading. BFD is cutting edge drum machine and Groove Agent was meant to be similar to older beat machines. It's not trying to compete with BFD, so looking down on it for not matching up is like looking down on Kevin Smith for not matching up to Orson Welles.

DFH II, however, will likely be competing with BFD. The dream would be to have both, the Big Fucking Drumkit From Hell. Smile

Now, if DKFH2 could sell a BFD version...

Hey Smart,

Now that's a contest I can get into. Tell me. Who is judging and what are the musical criteria other than no drums in the track and < 4:00? I need to know if this is a genre-limited contest for trance/techno/rave/electronica types where other musicians haven't a chance in Hades?

Beardedone,

You've got it. The only rules that apply are that you don't use any drums or percussion, and that you keep it under 4 minutes long. It's not genre based or biased at all, and Angus will exclusively be doing the judging himself - he's going to be the one that decides which track is worthy of his drums Smile

I wish people wouldn't get the impression that sectionz.com is only for techno heads - Yeah, a lot of the music on our site is electronica, and it's mostly because our musicians are mostly using FL Studio and other software studios. This is changing, and pretty rapidly. While a lot of our memebers aren't posting a lot of their project files for other sequencers like Project5, they're still using them. We've also got a lot of users who are using Cubase, Sonar, and Logic too. The number of artists who are using these sequencers is increasing pretty rapidly too, which we think is a good thing.

It's unfourtunate that sometimes people feel like if they're not using a software studio, or if they don't create electronica they're not welcome. This is something that we want to change. Yes, electronic music is our frontend, but it's mostly because it's the reason we started sectionz - the original idea was to show that people can create very good, professional music from their bedrooms, and it's true. It's just a lot easier and cheaper with electronic music because the availability for software synths, studios, and other software is the most affordable.

We have a lot of plans for the future. 2 things that we really would like to change are that we are sometimes considered a Trance site - this is so untrue. There's tons of different stuff on the site. Donkey Tugger (an indie rocking kvr favorite) has been posting his (superb) tunes there for ages now and is an active member who does a great job reviewing other people's music to give them good feedback and corrective criticism. This is just one example. I'd really like to see more of you kvr members stop by and show us what you've got. You're all welcome. The more the merrier, and the more people from kvr (opinionated bastards) the better because we like feedback from our users. I think we've got a nice place for you guys to put the music you make (using the plugins you talk about on kvr).

Okay - jeasus you'd think I was squids or something. I'll shut up now Smile

Hey Smart,

Thanks for Squidsian reply.

I stand corrected and rightly so. I am guilty of bias from the other side of the coin. I have reviewed sevarl tracks as a SZ member and have been duely impressed with the music I have heard and learned much in the process.

So Donkey indeed posts on SectionZ. Who knew? (Though I know Donkey considers himself deep down to be a big time Trancer -just don't let on OK Confused )

Good news too that Angus is judging this contest. It will surely invite considerable talent.

Cheers,
Gordon
